Need a way to contain the Leyak, permanently
I think it was made to be a funny and unique enemy type, and I appreciate all of that work. Really. It's also extremely triggering, as a survivor of sexual assault. People are calling it a pervert for a reason. I know it's not, I am a rational adult. I am posting because you guys say you care about that stuff, and I need to add to the choir that it's unwanted in its current rendition. My body reacts very strongly to it in a way I wish it didn't.

I can power through if it were a portion of the game, but its not. It's anywhere, anytime, forever. I can't play the game. I love this game, and I don't want to play it anymore. Everything I enjoy about it is overshadowed by how uncomfortable this thing makes me. I know about the xray stuff, I don't take pleasure in getting rid of it. The solution for arachnophobia isn't to give someone a spider-killing gun, it's to make their presence something you can control.

I've encountered the Leyak with my friends and this is the one thing I am not looking forward to in my solo run. I wouldn't mind having to deal with Leyak during my time at the labs but I don't exactly want him stalking me for the rest of the game after it.

Maybe have a trinket that stops Leyak from targeting you or maybe even a simple buff from a food recipe?

Edit: Disabling it in custom difficulty might be a tall order esp with the progression in mind so I removed the suggestion. Another one I can probably think of is adding some sort of furniture or small structure that prevent it's spawning at a certain radius.

I feel like there should be a whiteboard in containment labs after you use their drops to disable the door that gives you some sort of experimental blueprint for a semi-permanent containment solution. What that solution is is beyond me, though.

Although there's a possibility it will automatically stop chasing players after we're past the Labs sector (the game will have way more levels), a way to (very clearly) say bye forever to that thing before progression would be very welcome.

I think it should be toggable or just contained in a specific area. Idk about what the whole "Sexual Assault Survivor" Trigger or the "Its a pervert". I personally think thats a bit reaching (but thats just me and you're welcome to disagree) but I do find it a chore or rather annoying/tedious, esp in solo. It seems like everytime I get rid of it. I keep having this mindset of "Oh god whens it coming back". Plus I hate the noises it makes, its creepy to me. Its already bad enough that at my base spawn I gotta keep hearing the classic screams of people dying.

They could add a working Leyak containment facility past the area you need the Leyak essences to progress through.

Can use that eye fruit thing that makes it go after you if you eat it as bait.

It's one of those things where it's difficult to make sense unless you're a victim or close to someone who was a victim. The leyak's stalking, combined with their semi-sexual sounding grunts, can cause issues with PTSD for victims of sexual harassment and assault.
throwing the stone back into containment would be a way better way to get rid of it in my eyes....

Well that is the thing, I was a victim. But that doesn't mean I go around making everything of that experience. I think in all honesty its reaching. But again you're free to disagree or think im a biggot or whatever. In all honesty, I don't understand how anyone finds the noise sexual. I think thats letting your mind kinda play into it a little more than what it actually is. Like making it something its not.

But I will give it to you that the thing is creepy. Once I see it, I don't necessiarly feel fear (well until you're a bit closer, then it gets creepier) but I too would rather have it be a option to get rid of it or just prefer it stick to a specific part of labs.

i just got to the leyak and agree, it's really intimidating that it just stalks you forever, everywhere, afterwards. not in the fun kind of horror game way either, it's just genuinely unpleasant.

something i know a lot of games try to manage is how tense the player is throughout the game. in almost every genre, including horror, you typically want to follow a sort of alternating curve between tension and relief. the problem here is that the curve, at least for me, is now always on tension, never relief.

if it was limited to a certain area, and maybe showed up as a base assault event, it'd be fine, but now every previously safe-ish area feels like a permanent threat, and it leaves me anxious enough that i don't feel comfortable playing anymore. playing solo it's even worse, as the randomly chosen target is always me.

perhaps future updates will offer a way to contain or destroy it, but for now i would really like a toggle setting that just lets me limit it to the labs, or even disable it entirely.

well you need it to get it's essence later you can look at the turret infront of where you activate him and get the x-ray blueprint later you can get a handheld version of the cannon to get rid of it....

So make a station in labs that converts an item into the leyak essence. Even for those of us who aren't entirely creeped out by this thing, farming for leyak essense is extremely annoying/time consuming.

I don't get scared of the thing, but it's constant looming threat is certainly annoying even with the proper tools to deal with it.
MechWarden Oct 3, 2024 @ 11:52am
Why would you need to farm the essence? Once you are setup, you basically get one every 15 mins, and the need for it is very limited. You need a few to progress, and you need less than a dozen for a crafted item for a trade to get a really useful thing. I guess if you are with several other players, blasting through the game really fast it could be an issue, but if you really need to farm it, you can literally fish for it.

Heck, now that I think about it, with the ability to fish for the stuff, there is little need for Leyak to be around. After the shock and novelty is gone, most players find it annoying, with a few being too triggered by it to play comfortably enough with it around. That's not to say to remove it entirely from the game, but it does need a change to keep it from wearing out its welcome.

For a bit of a compromise, I wouldn't mind if broke out of containment once every week or so just to spice things up. You could get a notice from some system saying it is out, and then you'll have to deal with it for a little while and recapture it; not unlike some weather events.

None of those fish have ever dropped essence when butchered lol. Wonder what the drop chances are.

In one of the latest patches I believe they did mention plans to let you recontain it, though I get the feeling its going to be an expensive endeavor. Personally I don't mind it much, it hasn't caused me much grief. (Except for yesterday where it did sneak up on me in Hydroplant and I was almost ripped apart lmao)
