When it comes to killing enemies in specific ways.... as long as its not overly annoying or tedious to have to do, then it might be ok. Like how if you use the x-ray gun on IS-0059 (aka Reaper) it drops night essence. One of the problems is the methods need to be stuff that is easy for the player to discover, and easy to understand that it is that method that is causing the drops to happen, otherwise you'd only really know by reading the wiki (like the rat pack drops). But there should also be other ways to "farm" things too. If the RNG rates were just not so abysmally low for the most part and enemies more reliable and easier to farm, then it might not even be an issue in the first place.
Besides that issue, I like the idea, and wish we had more things like it.
Joking jab aside, that's what I mean by making it understandable (as a known mechanic) so that people don't have to look up the wiki. Right now with the Lab Rat it is a neat idea, and I got so much leather from just shaking down that guy, but it is still too easy for a player to not notice and not catch on to that (currently unusual) feature.
I don't care if the mechanic is brought up two or three sectors in (and causes players to have to revisit old places and old enemy and rediscover things in a new light), just as long it is brought up somewhere and properly demonstrated.
no need for any "tricks" for distant shore or organs/keys
An E-mail suggesting the netgun for catching quick rats, would also be very appreciated.
