Just in case people don't know,
The day phase is 15 in-game hours long and lasts 30 minutes in real life, while the night phase is the remaining 9 in-game hours, but goes 4 times faster and last 4.5 minutes long in real life (and does go by even faster if you start your sleep during the night). I'm a little impressed that the devs got some fairly clean numbers here.
I think the discrepancy and trickery involved is actually a bit smart on the dev's side of things, since most people do not want to wait around for night to be over with; given how night time is usually more dangerous or annoying to work with in other games, and unlike Minecraft, there is no 'sleep until morning' feature.
Early on in the game it feels like night time lasts more than long enough in most cases, and most people don't question it when it ends several minutes later. Waiting to do something in game tends to feel longer than it actually does, so the short nights are often very appreciated (before they realize night time isn't much of a threat). Paired with how the wrist watch doesn't tick each minute, making it harder to see the speed it, and the deception keeps going for quite awhile (and yet, people still asked for a way to speed up night time via sleeping)
Eventually the trick does fall apart when actually wanting to explore while it is night time, and players find out that night ends really quickly when actually wanting to make use of it.
As for the suggestion itself, It isn't so much a thing that gets disabled since it is baked into the game. I think it would be good to add, since the only way to adjust the night is to make the day just as long; which seems a bit odd.
And as I said in other threads like this, if this feature gets added then batteries will have to be adjusted to make sure they are usable for longer night time length, since batteries run on in real life time, not in-game time. Doubling the night time to 9 minutes already handicaps things far worse than what most people would expect, and setting it to the same rate as daytime, making night last for 18 minutes, would make many base locations unworkable until you are 3 sectors into the game and get access to a good enough battery. While a nice challenge, it is an unexpected one that I'm sure most players would rather not deal with if they just want nights to be longer.
So a day and night cycle setting then. Which would be logical since it could also include the "only day" and "only night" setting.
I never checked day and night clocks, and if you are right this is actually very weird. Why would they make the clock run faster instead of just setting night time from 23:00 to 5:00 instead of 21:00 to 6:00? Seems like extra effort without a benefit. But maybe it is already there as part of the sleep routine.
It is something I ran into very very early on when doing my battery testing (with the data later being a part of my battery guide). I was going to use in-game times as a baseline until I found out how weird those times were and had to use IRL time.

Yes it is weird, and no there was much to gain from it (as said in my last post).
The fact that it worked on you for this long just gives more credit to how good the trick was.
(and it fooled me for a long time as well until I did my testing, because I had no reason to believe it worked otherwise)
And no, night time moves at 4x speed while awake (obviously, since I did battery testing during the night as well). I haven't checked how much faster it is while sleeping, but it does go by faster while asleep.
