Regardless, the jobs are more meant to be a starting boost more than a hard role assignment. Aside from Defense Analyst getting lumped with a forced slow learner trait, they're all meant to be able to do each other's roles if necessary without suffering too much, since this game IS meant to be able to finish in singleplayer.
However I disagree with your perspective of current job values. Botanist and Gastrologist are some of the worst jobs and always have been. There is no reason to be either job because traits immediately eclipse their benefits. Literally any job can just take the trait and be better off than the job itself.
Im looking forward to see how the skill system will improve but for now some bonuses espesially for high skill lvls like7+ are complete joke and not rewarding at all
Unfortunately, it gave crafting and construction, which are the ones you do not need any early levels in to due to how easily they are leveled and how bad the bonuses are. The trees are themselves worth rebalancing separately from the jobs; construction gives you faster packaging and the other benefit is (sometimes) more loot when dismantling with a hammer. I don't even use the hammer to dismantle because I drag everything to the salvage bench.
Early levels in crafting give you access to workbench upgrades ... when you likely don't have the materials to make them! Compared to the level 5 trait in throwing, that shows a projectile trajectory. It's really saying something that the construction tree is not as good as throwing. Cooking level THREE gives you soups ....
Now I'm wishing I could change out the traits or specialization (maybe with a tough repeatable quest or hard farm?) because I figured out which traits are worth it after I played for a while. I regret not taking fanny pack and wish I could, but wrinkly brainmeat and buff brainiac feel like must picks.
If OP's suggestion comes into the game and the jobs are rebalanced, I hope a respec option is added to reroll the job and traits.
there has been at least one good idea for this.
