Eggs

It's quite interesting ingredient for cooking, when, when you obtain it, but I need to ask, why does it grow in planters, when we have a functional pet system?
Why not make pests, or other creatures lay them. I know that in the lore the first stage of their species evolution is carbuncle, but I think gameplaywise it would make more sense if eggs weren't plants, but could be aqquired when you take care of your pets. It would be another use for this system, that right now is a bit lacking.
