I still explore during the night, and oddly enough, I use both the Headlamp and normal flashlight. Even though the headlamp should be an upgrade with its wider and brighter beam, the battery life is... not great. I use it as my backup and a convenience light rather than my main light source. That way when my normal light goes dead, I have something to help me get back home.
That said, given the cost, description, and expectations, it is a bit of a disappointment. Honestly duct taping a normal light to a helmet would be more effective.
