:D I used them to little to realize there is none. This should definitely be a thing.

if they do add a stamina cost then they should increase the likelihood of an item dropping from it otherwise it won't be worth shaking the vending machines

The primary reason to shake the vending machine is for the strength xp, honestly. There's not a lot to use cash on and by the time you have the strength requirement you're likely not reliant on vending machine supplies anyway.

there needs to be a game play benefit to adding the stamina cost if someone wants to level strength they will just macro it or stand still till they max out strength

how does adding a stamina cost improve the gameplay for yourself and others?

I'm not arguing in favor or against adding a stamina cost, I just thought I'd throw in my view of why it would still be worth shaking the vending machine.

this was mostly for the OP since he hasn't explained anything

There is only 2 vending machines next to one another, a drink and a snack... And there is a 10 second cooldown after shaking one... So its kinda irrelevant of adding a stamina cost because it's the same cooldown duration (or if you make it worse, then leveling str is worse).

The current implementation incentivizes you to shake vending machines continuously until you can reach the heavy weapon unlock. The only real way of getting XP before that is carrying a heavy load, but vending machines don't even require you to move, making it easy to grind, even with only one hand free

you can still level strength with one hand without the vending machine
why is leveling strength easily a bad thing?
if people are choosing to level strength by using the vending machine trick and sitting there for hours that just means leveling strength is not considered fun by those players

you can easily level up strength by just carrying stuff back to your base and you will benefit more doing that than hyper focusing on strength

And to add insult in injury, if you fail, it should send a security bot to investigate.
I don't think adding the risks you suggest would be worth it when we have items and skills to just completely counter those things through passive means.
sending a security bot is just a reward instead of a punishment considering they are not a big threat and they drop items you can use

discouraging players from using game mechanics will do more harm than good especially when currently we only have 2 ways to level strength in this game and these suggestions would eliminate 50% of the methods to level strength

skill gain for strength should probably be redone before I'd jump at the conclusion of a stamina cost, since there's really no competition aspect, I wouldn't say this is of high importance at this stage.

The number of people who die annually from vending machines falling over on them is a bit surprising, actually, but I wouldn't advocate for that in-game.

Also this, yeah.

Shake-grinding actually caused some friction in my social group because of people doing that for a long period of time instead of other, more productive things

If they're doing it for the contents then good lord what a waste of time
Otherwise, still kind of a waste of time anyway since passive gains while being slightly over-encumbered add up and there's no perk past level 8 right now anyway.
