Lip smacking option/opt-out please instead of removing it..
I get that some people hate lip smacking, i don't. And i find it a shame with the effort the devs and the voice actors have gone through to make voice lines that feel like they fit the og hl1 scientists so well including the lip smacking. Not to mention that i am an old man with pretty bad hearing so any slightest bit of extra audio que i can get in regards to anything helps out. So i ask thee devs, please put the lip smacking back in, in the form of a opt-out feature please would probably be best.

And yes this is unironic. i am not trying to rile anyone up or be funny or edgy, i just want the option seeing as how it was already in the game and dev's put time, effort and presumably money into this which they've just removed from their brand new shiny shiny lovely game :,q..

Iv'e already got a fond memory of when i started playing the first few hours and i heard my lovely nostalgic kleiner voice smack some lips, sigh, and say he (poor kleiner) was parched, brought a not insignifficant smile to my face. And it also makes me sad now to think that if this is removed or made opt-in instead of opt-out, many people will never even know it's a thing, if not most people..

i want my kleiner lips back, they were robbed from me! :steamsad:

Weirdly enough, I concur with this sentiment. The parched line just feels off without them.
I would like if they either give us the option to add them back or, at the very least, remove "(Lip Smacking)" from the subtitles because the inconsistency now bothers me. lol

I have to agree. I understand some folks don't like it, but the voice lines sound odd without it. Especially given this would be a harrowing event for our scientists it is doubtful they would be terribly concerned about manners. It just sounded better and I would love to be able to turn that back on.

I'm one of the players where the noise makes my skin crawl. However, I had assumed the lip smacks were removed on the misophonia setting, are you saying they are also gone from the normal setting? That seems rather odd to remove them from both modes, epsecially if players enjoy the VA.

In my own and seemingly other's experience it does indeed seem like they've just been lazily ripped right out yup and according to Mr.Serious at least, they didn't even bother to change subtitles.

Which is sadly but also luckilly in a way the first bad thing i can say about the game/devs, did so darn well with the game and it's direction and then they go and make a weird silly mistake like this :,q oh well.

(EDIT:
I want to note that i don't consider bugs to necessarily go under the category of bad things to say about the game because i haven't experienced many and the few i have, haven't been gamebreaking what so ever and there's only been a few of them in my 60+hrs. Plus you have to expect at least a few so close to launch of any game nevermind (i assume) an indie title.. especially an EarlyAccess indie title.....

But this issue is about a choice they made, a decision they made, and one they seemingly may have made in haste considering it was at the bottom of the latest hotfix shortly after the previous patch that released within just a few hours i think.

And that is why i say it's the first bad thing i can say about the game/devs.. It was a generally, objectively silly thing for them to do (the way they did it).. And that's putting it politely.
END OF EDIT)

I just hope they will edit it back in and make it opt-out. even if they have to have duplicate files for with and without, i don't care the game being a few MB's bigger for my kleiner lips.

So i'm playing some more now, second time/session after the voice lines changes..

Pretty sure they've even gone as far as removing any sigh's as well, like the sigh right before kleiner sayd he is too hot.....

And i don't know if it's cause i'm used to the sigh or because of how sudden the voice line now starts..

(starts kinda loud now imo compared to the subtly lower volume of the sigh that used to preface the voice line)

But now as a result, one way or another when that voice line played, it scared the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ out of me for half a second, like prickly cold skin and spine scared x,')... funny after the fact but god it was unpleasant.. pleeease put it all back in and make it opt-out under either the existing accessibility settings or make a new one sometime or another at least <3

iv'e also noticed a audio bug for the first time after the changes. kleiner proceeded to say he was starving while he still wasn't done with the voice line about being hot.. never happened before in my 60+ hrs and now within a couple hours at most i got clipping lines.. :q

iv'e got a bad feeling man,, i hope they can turn the ship of bad decisions around before it's too late and snowballs.. i really don't want this game to become yet another piece of hot garbage..

note for the devs (if devs ever read and read comments this far/deep.. probably not gonna happen.... :c):

just keep doing what you've always done so far, make the game how ya'll want it and put options in to accommodate whomever you want/can and take feedback/suggestions but treat them as exactly that and no more, if ya'll don't wanna do something. don't..

do not compromise for anything with anything if it means fundamentally changing the game or removing parts of the game, so long as you are making a game you believe is fun and that you enjoy playing with then all will be well.

Overall at least, you'll always have a small group of people arguing and complaining about something or another, always, no matter how valid or invalid any argument is there always will be at least 1 person in the world that would take opposition even if just to plainly be contrary..

thank you though for making this thus far. it's easily in my top 10 games of all time and i'm very fussy about what games i like the most and don't usually put more than a few dozen hours at most into a game unless i am thoroughly enjoying it and boy have i :3 so, thank you. i am so looking forward to doing a second playthough with coop!

I'm actually surprised how many people seem to be upset over this change, honestly. But maybe it's just because I'm the type of person who can get a bit tired of hearing the same lines ad infinium, and the ones that stand out the most end up being the most grating after a while.
Octowolf49 24. mai 2024 kl. 16.40
So i just had the "there must be water here" line play, except that's purely all the voice clip is now.. (i think there used to be a concerned sounding "hmmh" right before that line)

sounds like they've edited the voice line files with wavepad (or another program with a similar issue) that does this stupid idiotic thing of fading audio out at the end no matter what options are set, like a hard-coded fadeout.. At least i've never found out how to remove that from wavepad... :q

Point is: that the voice line mentioned fades out hard at the end, and as a result sounds like or maybe actually does cut off ever so slightly like half a second before the voice line is actually done...

This voice change thing was done in such a hurry man.. Feels bad man......

Honestly, I understand why. When you're having an issue that's preventing some players from playing the game at all, getting a hotfix out immediately and refining it later is a bit prudent. While you have some cases like the Leyak where the problem is directly tied to mechanical progression that cant be hotfixed, there are cases like this where the solution is to quickly edit the sound files and refine + possibly re-record lines later.

To me at least it's not that they've removed them per say, it's the way they've done it, ripping it out entirely.

And now as i'm finding out, having done so.. very.. very sloppily.....

It's a very worrying red flag for where the dev team's decision making might be going, maybe they're too stressed out from all the attention/popularity the game has gotten and they just tryin to push too hard and slippin in the process idunno...

wait are you saying that voice line changes were done for any other reason at all other than just people not wanting lip smacking??... (Edit: fair enough the "just" part was a bit uncalled for but i love this game so far and am worried for it after this debacle so i wasn't thinkin too much about that..)

if there was a legit reason for it then fair but they should have added a footnote about that in patch notes if that is the case, and if they did it wasn't on the same line or under the line about this change..

It's the same reason they have a misophonia toggle. For some people mouth sounds cause an actual revulsion response that would prevent them from enjoying the game. The issue is that, probably due to the way the voiceline system is currently implemented, that the misophonia toggle doesn't affect player voicelines. I think down the line they'll either fix it so that it DOES affect player voicelines, or they'll simply polish up the removal that they did right now.
Octowolf49 24. mai 2024 kl. 16.54
And if that is not the case.. Then my dude.. You're being a bit silly man... Taking lip smacking out of voice lines is about as far from an important edit/hotfix/patch as you can frikkin get with the only exception being for those with misophonia,

If they intended to only temporarily remove them and add them back in when they can integrate it into option and still let people with misophonia enjoy the game while they work on a propper patch then fine i wouldn't have a problem with that what so ever, but they should have put that in the patch notes if that was/is the case and all this could have been avoided. but they did not.. so either way there was some level of messup/♥♥♥♥♥♥ somewhere one way or another no matter how you look at it man..

And either way, that's a bad sign for the here and now at the very least.
Is it a sign of things to come? no way to tell but time.. i hope not cause this has quickly become one of my alltime favorite games already.

Again, I don't really understand why people are quite as upset about this change as they are, it feels very minor. I understand the developer's viewpoint of making a hotfix for now and refining it later, because someone not being able to play at all due to a neurodivergence they have no control over takes precedent over... someone who just enjoys the lip smacking sounds.

If there wasn't a misophonia toggle, I'd understand the concerns, but as it stands I don't really see the need to be so suspicious over the omission of a full explanation for every item on a patchnote list.

bruhh you're missing my point entirely.. it's not really so much about it being done dude it's about HOW it was done...... jeezus read a bit more accurately please, if you're gonna take the time to sit and post replies the least you could do is put a bit of time into reading.......

Nr1. If they did just make a hotfix for people with misophonia until they make it togglable in options, THEY DID NOT SAY SO. THEY JUST SAID THEY'D REMOVED IT.. is the point.. there ya go. i even put some of that in capitals for ya.

Nr2. if it's not just a temporary thing, then they are THROWING time, effort and most likely a bit of money too. right.. down.. the... drain.... and this is a terrible choice if this is the case cause... whyyyy??... why would they do that? idiots is my only answer if this is the case..
