A smaller shield size?
Currently the higher tier the shield is the bigger they're, and the Charge Shield took up half of the screen. It's really not nice to have half of my screen block while I try to loot and stay alive at the same time. NOT to mention there is ALWAYS a monster begging for attention!

just holster it
Nick Walker II Jun 5, 2024 @ 11:55am
Yeah that'd be nice. The kite and charge shield sure do obstruct a good portion of the screen.

my arm hangs to my side and unless you block with a shield it does nothing so having it block the screen makes no sense. the holstering system is clumsy atm and if you holster it you might as well not be carrying it.

I really don't mind if the shield block my entire screen when I'm blocking. But when It come to looting and surviving, it's really bad. And it's not like I need the other shield, I use plastic shield to block metal bullet 99% of the time and it never break on me.

I've said it before on another thread, but I really don't understand why so many games have shields so obtrusive. If you've ever had a shield strapped to your arm, you'll notice it's primarily out of your field of view unless you're actively blocking. I can get it as a balancing thing, or as a way to remind the player that they have a shield equipped, but it just doesn't feel good. I'd take shields that break faster if it meant not having to juggle holstering.

Because it is a game and not the real world. And the drawback of the better protection is the visibility. In real life a heavy shield would make you encumber and tired much quicker. You would even have to put it away to have your hands free to pick something up... Nothing of that happens in the game now does it?

It's almost as if I addressed the balancing concerns with "I'd take shields that break faster if it meant not having to juggle holstering."

What is and isn't realistic is a moot point as it's just subjective opinion. I personally don't like it in any videogame, regardless of whatever "balancing" it brings because it's just annoying, not difficult.

You're right, reality doesn't matter! It's just a game after all.

They should change all crops to require sulfuric acid instead of water. Perhaps replace all the humans with six legged birds.

Having a shield does increase your weight though, it doesn't really matter much if your armor weight is already 4/4 but if not, the shield is slowing you down to have it equipped, even if holstered.

Feel free do suggest a different downside if you want to remove the visibility restriction.

ha ha. can we get a round of applause for the facetious comment.

no... ok.

its neither realistic or conducive to good gameplay to have a large object obstructing the player view.

What do you want me to say, that in exchange for getting rid of a mild inconvenience I need to invert my controls and exclusively throw paper at enemies for damage? A lot of your posts are essentially just jumping down people's throats for anything that even remotely has a chance of making the game "easier". Learn to relax.

Here is the thing, people are slightly bothered and go to the forum to complain. Devs remove the slight bother. Repeat again and again. In the end you have a game you can blast through with no obstruction and the same people that got the challenges removed get bored quickly and move to another game.

At the moment you don't even need a shield, the game is so dumbed down you can facetank almost anything without a shield.

If you remove the visibiltiy handicap everyone will be using a shield because why not, no downside. On the other hand if there are though enemies you will want to use a shield even with the handicap. So the game gets more interesting, because one size doesn't fit all, you have to choose according to the situation.

It's almost the same with the firearms, everyone wants them without drawbacks and with craftable ammo. The second that happens nobody will use the science weapons and everyone will run around cowboy style.

You can already completely remove the downside by pressing holster, but people can't even be arsed to do that....
