Sadly, no. You respawn either near starting elevator, or latest bed you've used. Equip and hotbar remains with you, while backpack contents drop on the place of your death.

When you are just starting the game, you can choose special conditions in case your character dies, as well as activate the hardcore mode, where your character will be deleted after death.

By default you drop your inventory but keep what is in your hotbar. However, when you start a new world you can go into the sandbox options and change it whatever you want.

Maybe some players just like the thrill of living on the edge and play what is essentially a hardcore mode. What's wrong with that?

There are difficulty options to make the game more hardcore, including deleting all of your equipment and inventory on death

Yeah. It could work very well as an optional mode.

I think there is an optional setting that makes you lose all your gear on death. Not sure though.

Just open up the game and check out the Sandbox settings.

And yes, there is a wide range of settings from keep everything to delete everything, and many points inbetween.

Default is drop what's in your backpack and your worn gear and hotbar items take 10% durability damage upon death.

Back on the topic, there was a couple Hardcore and/or Ironman settings when launched, but they were quickly removed by the devs because they weren't ready to release that yet.
