Grenades and Mines help, but so does a GUN.
You can literally make Slushie Bombs as soon as you start the game, just go to a Slushie Machine which is located in the Cafeteria of the Data Farm. There is Tech Scrap and Money on the table next to the Machine as an obvious hint towards the ability to buy and make Slushie Bombs.
Alternatively there is a Slushie Machine in Flathill which you can use that also has respawning money and Power Cells (Portal worlds get reset, allowing you to farm items)
You can also make a Thermal Mallet as soon as you find Rebar, which is also easy and before you come into contact with multiple gun-wielding soldiers. You're not trying to go under the Crane in Manufacturing towards the LMG nest, are you?
If you feel that killing everything on your path is a constant objective given to you throughout the entire game then I feel bad for you. You rely too much on guns.
Think more like a Half-Life Scientist instead of Gordon Freeman.
The pistol is nice to have cus its both a GUN and Flashlight, which when your playing solo is obviously VERY useful if your in the dark. The Pipe Gun is obviously better cus it deals twice the damage, but the pistol has more DPS when you need it. The Security pistol is also ALOT more Accurate then the scrape pistol is.
Hell just make it so you need another Pistol to repair your Pistol, is that REALLY too much to ask? Also, its a Survival game with a repair bench, let me repair stuff.
The item you are likely missing for the Thermal Mallet is likely the rebar which should be really ease for you to find in the Manufacturing area. A bit surprised you haven't picked it up yet. (try breaking some of the newer looking crates with hazard strips if need be)
Lastly, the update announcement addressed why the devs are not wanting to make guns repairable.
So, in a way, yes it is technically too much to ask, at least at this stage of development.
The guns are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to encourage players to be creative and use other items instead of using the same thing over and over again.
Yes I do believe you are that stupid. You can get Leather later in the game after you get past Manufacturing and also have the ability to farm it endlessly once you reach the next portal world.
I also explained to you exactly where you can find Slushies to make bombs out of them and you clearly somehow failed to find any Rebar while being at the part where you face off soldiers. That part is literally where you find Rebar.
You can also get a Headlamp from trading with The Blacksmith which you will have to do regardless at some point.
You can also make a Scrap Shotgun instead of a Scrap Pistol if you hate it that much.
You have so many options on how to approach things yet you pick the worst one.
But, dev vision and decision trumps logic and player input.
I have both scrape guns, the pistol works but some times its like "why did you miss?" The shotgun, also works but it doesn't feel any different.
"you have so many options and you pick the worst one" Well that's your opinion. That backpack is the only way i know of to currently GET leather. Their are probably other ways but I have not found them, yet.
I have found Frank and Unlocked the Second Tram. That is the point i am at.
Funny how the "formerly" anomalous couch gun can be repaired but the rest of the weapons can't. Also surprised it only takes scrap and doesn't need to be oiled.
AT THE VERY LEAST give us a HIGH SKILL perk that lets us fix the Military weapons.
One solution in my opinion is add new Order enemies with a more melee/heavy emplacement oriented presence, and have them be in the early sectors instead, delaying the small arms gunners to later in the game, at which point the guns won't be as cool and won't matter if you can fix them or not.
I feel it would be more thematic since they're kinda crazy/zealous and encounters in the early sectors often devolve into CQC. The gunmen seem a bit out of place in manufacturing/containment, took me a while to notice they had religious themes.
Single Shot Railgun pistol with Questionable accuracy (does nice damage though at 50)
vs
a Stranded Issue 9mm (does about the same damage as the crossbow) that is easy to use and you can even strap a flashlight to it for some utility.
Are the ORDER GUNS required? No, but I still wish I could FIX them with a Skill PERK or something. Also you can Repair the Antique Shotgun so I see no reason you can't repair the OTHER guns.
Its just WEIRD to have a repair/scrap bench with an no way to Repair or Scrap certain things. Not just the GUNS, but alot of items can't be scrapped for some reason.
