You can't repair the Security Pistol, Why? If you can, HOW?!
So your telling me My Scientist doesn't know how to do Gun Maintenance, ok fair enough. But seriously HOW, if at all, do you repair this thing?

Much as I love sneaking up on soldiers and Stabbing them like a serial Killer, would be Nice to have Working GUN (plus you can attach a flashlight to it with ducktape, which is convenient) Just in case.

Already got RAIDED once by these guns and I don't think I'm winning another round without the Pistol, theirs just too many of them.

Yes, is one of the major issues at the moment, all we want to fix the military weapons, but just you can. If your gun breaks it, you have to find another. And if this is funny, wait to see the durability of the SMG, 2 mags, and directly to the trash can.
So..... Just wait for it to respawn? Assuming it DOES respawn after a while like everything else does. I think I found it in one of the Security offices or somewhere shortly after opening the Tunnel to Manufacturing. (along with plenty of bullets)

You would also think we could loot them from the Soldiers as well, hell had 2 guys with SMGs, a Medic and a Captain in that Raid. But it would appear NOT, although I did get the Rat Scanner from those other wierdos walking around the Facility.
Well, the security pistol you shouldn't have problems to get one, the soldiers use them, and the drop isn't too low, I have a lot security pistols and SMG, for their revolvers and shotguns....ill just say 30 hours if game, and only one revolver and shotgun was dropped.

I think a scientist would be creative enough to be able to clean and maintain a firearm tbh

Still, you SHOULD be able to fix all your weapons. Make the "real" Guns more expensive to fix for all I care just let me FIX THEM! Funny enough the Gun can be scrapped down into the stuff you would THINK you would use to repair it, OIL and Scrap Metal.
You don't need it and you shouldn't be able to reliably use "normal" guns throughout your playthrough as it is not the point of the game. If you want shooty shooty Half-Life setting then.. play Half-Life itself instead?

You're a scientist, be creative like a scientist would be. Use stealth to sneak up on enemies for bonus damage, use slushie bombs, use a thermal mallet for bonus damage, try to find grinder discs and then just make a grinder itself.. you're at this point of the game where such things should be possible and easy for you to do already.
The game is not that hard.

You can find a double-barrel shotgun later-on which is repairable, if that makes you any happy.
I can't even make any of those things you just listed. Stealth works but you still need to spend several minutes killing whoever you just stabbed (not like you can instant kill someone). Oh and all 4-5 of their buddies are going to run into the room and start shooting you too.

Grenades and Mines help, but so does a GUN.

I hope you understand that you can stealth through areas WITHOUT having to kill people and get new items without being bothered then come back to get the enemies' item drops once you upgraded your gear. Almost every new area in the game contains new items to help you progress.

You can literally make Slushie Bombs as soon as you start the game, just go to a Slushie Machine which is located in the Cafeteria of the Data Farm. There is Tech Scrap and Money on the table next to the Machine as an obvious hint towards the ability to buy and make Slushie Bombs.
Alternatively there is a Slushie Machine in Flathill which you can use that also has respawning money and Power Cells (Portal worlds get reset, allowing you to farm items)

You can also make a Thermal Mallet as soon as you find Rebar, which is also easy and before you come into contact with multiple gun-wielding soldiers. You're not trying to go under the Crane in Manufacturing towards the LMG nest, are you?

If you feel that killing everything on your path is a constant objective given to you throughout the entire game then I feel bad for you. You rely too much on guns.
Think more like a Half-Life Scientist instead of Gordon Freeman.

you really thing i'm that stupid? I don't have to kill them, but I need/want stuff they drop. Like the Radio backpacks for Leather. And No I can't make those things, I don't know WHAT I failed to Pick up so my Characters brain has a moment of inspiration, but no Slushie Bombs or Thermal Mallet for me. I do have Frag Grenades and Mines I could craft though.

The pistol is nice to have cus its both a GUN and Flashlight, which when your playing solo is obviously VERY useful if your in the dark. The Pipe Gun is obviously better cus it deals twice the damage, but the pistol has more DPS when you need it. The Security pistol is also ALOT more Accurate then the scrape pistol is.

Hell just make it so you need another Pistol to repair your Pistol, is that REALLY too much to ask? Also, its a Survival game with a repair bench, let me repair stuff.
MechWarden May 22, 2024 @ 5:22pm
You need cash on hand and press the vending machine soda button on slushie machines. You have access to a slushie machine at the Level 2 kitchen near the Data Farm.

The item you are likely missing for the Thermal Mallet is likely the rebar which should be really ease for you to find in the Manufacturing area. A bit surprised you haven't picked it up yet. (try breaking some of the newer looking crates with hazard strips if need be)

Lastly, the update announcement addressed why the devs are not wanting to make guns repairable.
Largely, this will not be changing (not being repairable), though we are currently investigating a way to make repairs a viable option without creating a very unbalanced power dynamic.
So, in a way, yes it is technically too much to ask, at least at this stage of development.

Yes it is too much to ask because the developers want to have their own gameplay loop for the game and you're asking for something they don't want to do. If the normal guns were repairable the game would just be an another generic boring survival game.

The guns are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to encourage players to be creative and use other items instead of using the same thing over and over again.

Yes I do believe you are that stupid. You can get Leather later in the game after you get past Manufacturing and also have the ability to farm it endlessly once you reach the next portal world.

I also explained to you exactly where you can find Slushies to make bombs out of them and you clearly somehow failed to find any Rebar while being at the part where you face off soldiers. That part is literally where you find Rebar.

You can also get a Headlamp from trading with The Blacksmith which you will have to do regardless at some point.

You can also make a Scrap Shotgun instead of a Scrap Pistol if you hate it that much.

You have so many options on how to approach things yet you pick the worst one.

This is true, but its not really a matter of creativity. A firearm is a fairly simple machine, and a pistol is the simplest form of one. Maintaining one is about on par with maintaining a bicycle, and far simpler than for instance the engine on a lawnmower or boat. A kid with an hour of training and sufficient patience can tear one down and put it back together. These scientists should have zero trouble.

But, dev vision and decision trumps logic and player input.
ULTRA May 22, 2024 @ 6:31pm
Ackshually as for the weapons in the game, the coach gun (antique shotgun) is definitely simpler than a semi-auto pistol

I have rebar though, plenty of it. Hell you can get screws and rebar by braking the Construction crates (the ones with orange and black stripes). Ill check my crafting menu to see if I got it.

I have rebar, plenty of it in fact. Don't recall getting a mallet but ill check. Its probably a heavy weapon anyway and I don't have the strength for it, yet.

I have both scrape guns, the pistol works but some times its like "why did you miss?" The shotgun, also works but it doesn't feel any different.

"you have so many options and you pick the worst one" Well that's your opinion. That backpack is the only way i know of to currently GET leather. Their are probably other ways but I have not found them, yet.

I have found Frank and Unlocked the Second Tram. That is the point i am at.

Collect briefcases from train world then salvage it.

I don;t think it gets much similar then a antique Couch Gun. Besides maybe a Flintlock weapon.

Funny how the "formerly" anomalous couch gun can be repaired but the rest of the weapons can't. Also surprised it only takes scrap and doesn't need to be oiled.

AT THE VERY LEAST give us a HIGH SKILL perk that lets us fix the Military weapons.
DuckieMcduck May 24, 2024 @ 11:56pm
The crossroads devs are in is making the science/alien stuff cooler than the bog standard military spec toys.

One solution in my opinion is add new Order enemies with a more melee/heavy emplacement oriented presence, and have them be in the early sectors instead, delaying the small arms gunners to later in the game, at which point the guns won't be as cool and won't matter if you can fix them or not.

I feel it would be more thematic since they're kinda crazy/zealous and encounters in the early sectors often devolve into CQC. The gunmen seem a bit out of place in manufacturing/containment, took me a while to notice they had religious themes.

And the Science Stuff is most certainly "cool" But....
Single Shot Railgun pistol with Questionable accuracy (does nice damage though at 50)
vs
a Stranded Issue 9mm (does about the same damage as the crossbow) that is easy to use and you can even strap a flashlight to it for some utility.

Are the ORDER GUNS required? No, but I still wish I could FIX them with a Skill PERK or something. Also you can Repair the Antique Shotgun so I see no reason you can't repair the OTHER guns.

Its just WEIRD to have a repair/scrap bench with an no way to Repair or Scrap certain things. Not just the GUNS, but alot of items can't be scrapped for some reason.
