Not long from now you'll have much better armor and ranged weapons that make these guys trivial.
so dont use the pipe weapon. table leg and shield then.
If you have the pipe weapon then use it for sure, just use the best blunt weapon you have as long as you have a shield equipped also. The table leg will be sufficient though.
You'll want to oscillate between attacking once, then immediately blocking until it attacks, then attack once and repeat. Keep your back against the wall and you won't get knocked back. If you're out in the open, crouching also mitigates the knockback, making it easier to counterattack.
With proper timing and avoiding knockback, you can take on a peccary without taking any damage.
Also, blocking seems to be more effective than the animation makes it out to be, and by that I mean even if it looks like your shield isn't up, if you're holding the block button you are likely to block the attack, even if it doesn't look like you will. There's a sort of trap where you'll instinctively just block too late because you think your still in your attack animation --- try to get into the habit of immediately blocking after an attack, even if you're still in your attack animation.
grab those book binders on shelfs and desks they will give you magazines and books which can help make leg and arm armor after making them try packaging filing cabinets (any size) it may have a high chance breaking but keep it up because once you get at least one you can make a chest piece
later when you navigate to third floor there should be screws on the shelfs grab them and a frying pan from the start area and you will have a helmet and a finished set bonus that makes carried items lighter
