It is kind of handy for things like stacks of rotten food, or huge stacks of stuff you'd rather not spam click.
Have yet to test it myself, but I can understand being underwhelmed if it is just that.
Very underwhelming hopefully they expand the usage to something cooler or more unique in the future.
Like if I could maybe convert 1 resource to another like maybe get a tech scrap if I put in 2 wood (it doesn't have to make sense) that would maybe be cool

Scrapping 20 items is a lot of free crafting experience.
If you already have max crafting the point is moot.
I agree. It boils entirely down to 'exp vs time'.
I also posted a theoretical about taking it to a densely furnished location to mass-scrap in the field then take resources home. I.e if someone never salvaged the Data farm, or Furniture store.
But that's a fairly niche-case use.
