I'd be more than very shocked if somehow saves didn't carry over to the last major update.
since majority of new content is always beyond the current end which is simply inaccessable the game saves where always working fine with new updates.
as far as i'm aware, we USED to have goggles and needed to use them to see underwater. as far as I can tell now however, the diving suit seems to have that built in as I can now see with a headlamp on underwater, which is a massive QOL improvement.
I expect any changes they make to be similar to that honestly. though it DOES lead to you being screwed over a LOT.
I was in reactors basically when they added some new items and changed recipes, so had no idea about space queen, or the items from that world, and that REALLY screwed me over as I didn't want to just use the wiki. similar to the Lodestones farming.
