One handed weapons?
The new shield is really cool but it seems like all the best weapons are all two handed these days. Are there any good things I can sword and board with?

mace is nice
oddly enough, i find that using the medievil shield ( gotten from the zombie shopping building ), and our trusty hammer ( now also upgradable ), or combat knife ( gotten from the snow mountains location ), works rather nicely.
-- hammer is decent speed blunt attacks, and helps avoid accidentally destroying the surrounding destructible mid-battle.
-- combat knife is decent speed sharp attacks, helps you move around an lil faster while holding it, and useful for harvesting enemies for loot.
-- medievil shield is *i think at least* the current best shield there is, no battery required. ( would be really helpful if we could see the defence stats for each shield. ).

Medievil (kite) shield is actually the worst shield (ok that'd be the plastic one, but I digress). It has slightly more durability than the the other 3 non-plastic shields but more than 2x the durability loss chance.

Meanwhile it provides no secondary benefit nor the coverage that the riot shield provides.

Medievil shield is actually the worst shield (ok that'd be the plastic one, but I digress). It has slightly more durability than the the other 3 non-plastic shields but almost 3x the durability loss chance.

He advises fighting with a hammer, which has WAY less damage than a normal one-handed weapon.

This is either trolling or a person playing on the lowest possible sandbox difficulty.

The new spears are really strong, especially the quill spear (even when you ignore the shooting function). The quill rifle also got a big buff, so it might be much more viable to use it with a shield now. other than that, I kinda agree. It would be nice to have more niche science weapons to use with the shield and a bigger variety of melee weapons as well.

Also, a note about the quill spear: You can actually shoot it without having to holster your shield by pressing T to check your watch. The shooting function isn't really worth it imo, but with this it's at least usable without a giant hassle.

the latter, had to after that recent update.
-- works pretty well for most of the enemies so long as you aim for the head. ( for anything the hammer is too weak for, i just use the upgraded pickaxe while sneak-attacking. ).
all the two handed weapons in this game suck. use a spear
Two handed weapon is only good for a sneak attack, since its base damage is high and you have full time to swing it when sneaking.
For 1 handed weapons it's really just up to you honestly, they're all not great. Quill Rifle is pretty good now though and you can use the hardlight shield to farm more Quills now. When fighting the 2 types of Exor that fire Quills you can get Quill Bolts for the Quill RIfle from one by deflecting their shots and regular Quills for crafting whatever quill stuff you want from the other.

3 of the lower tier ones spawn near the entrance to the Adjustment Wing and 4 of the higher tier ones spawn in Hydroplant by the office/gym/residental area in the back right and another one by the bridge on the way there near the 2 Robots, by the big door you open to the Order controlled power plant area.
