Far as I know there is no method to always catch rare fish.

I've been playing this game and monitoring this forum for months, and if there was I likely would have heard about it already. Nothing like that has been mentioned in Steam Guides for fishing, other than one that literally says "pray to RNGesus".

Nope, but using bait and equipping the lucky fishing hat gives you the best odds.
Yes. There are two items in the game that increase the chances of rare fish. The fog lantern and the Night Helmet. I tried the Fog lantern and lucky hat method and didn't get a rare in over 20 fish. While I got a rare Inkfish from just 10 fish wearing the Night Helmet; the percentage seems to be larger than the combined Lucky Hat and Fog bonuses. .

So diving for the night sigil to make the helmet seems to be worth it if your only goal is the rare fish cheevo. I don't think there is a mechanical bonus for the rares, they are just different colors.

The Fog Lantern and the Night helmet count as bait for specific fish, so using bait is just as effective as them for rare fish.
The Night Helmet states a 10% increase, do we know what the regular bait does percentagewise? If it were also 10%, then we would see similar statistics.
Good luck on the Canaan fish.

I still want to not only catch all the fish types in my latest Solo game, but have them in a tank, and have no decay bars on the icons; but the grind is a bit much:steamsad:. I wind up with more food than I can use, and as much as I like the Coworker, I'm kind of tired of feeding him all of my surplus food and only getting pens and staplers.

Same but for most it didn't bother me until only the "rare rare" and "rare rare rare" fish were left. Then the grind ramped up 100%. :( These fish are a bit much and also in the least various location. You basically just have 1 spot. :(

And since I do not feed the abomination I drown in food :( I filled an entire room with fish plates :P an I still slashed maybe 50% of it into bio scrap.

I end up just packing all the spare fish into a random freezer, there if I ever need it again.

So , i just need to grind it for hour or more? Last time i tried i fished for 35 minutes and just got 25 Antefishes. I'm fishing in the aquarium in the lobby of Cascade Laboratories. I have all things equipped , but maybe i must pray to god that he will give me it.
Rare fish is just a chance. You could get it the first try, or it could take you hours to get one. The horrors of rng.

My rare fish were almost all pretty reasonable to fish. You might need more time for one but then others are quicker. Try to find a fishing spot it reduces your time by giving you less scrap.

Which rare are you currently looking for?
Chair, Hat and Bait are essential to reduce time. And just to make sure, you do not use the waders right? They give you scrap only.

ANY , because i need this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ achievement. I got all achievements two time's (crush depth and dark energy) BUT NOT THIS FISHY ACHIEVEMENT.
I noticed nobody pointed this out, but the reason why I said the Night Helmet is because it's the only thing in the game that outright says the rare fish chance. It outright says +10%, meaning that statistically you should get a hit within 15 fish and got one within that amount. Meanwhile I tried lucky hat + fog lantern and I didn't get a single hit withing 25 fish.

No other fishing item states the rare chances. hat, box, and bait does not seem to result in that high of a chance; it does not seem to scratch 10% like the night helmet does. I.E this seems to be the easiest route if your goal is just one rare fish
