They respawn in portal worlds on portal reset, I guess.
I think there is atleast 1 in every 'area' past offices but I could be wrong.
The one I got from the first portal world (far garden) has not respawned in 10 resets
Lucky me, an old safety feature the devs put in allowed me to recover the lost items after a reload of the save. The items were floating right where the hive was at when I made another round to check if it reappeared (this time with a vacuum) and was able to make a hive.
I looked up the Steam Guide on where hives could be at, but had no luck on finding others, besides the one I already found in the hot fungus area.
An infuriating thing about the hives, the first time I lost the items to the void I hit Alt F4 to not save what happened (not believing the recovery system would work) and loaded back up, only for the hive to not show up that time. So there seems to be some sort of RNG check that happens as you enter an area, and not something that respawns after a given amount of time.
P.S. you need to destroy 2 bee hives to make 1 craftable beehive, but you only need 1 craftable beehive to make the other beehive out of the queen bee
If they do fall into the void, reload the save (making sure that your saved before hand) and the dropped items should show back up, held in place, roughly where the hive was at. You might want to wait a moment before reloading the save, to make sure the game realizes that the items were very much lost.
It's counter intuitive, but the feature is there to more or less recover lost items.
Don't even need the melee, the vacuum breaks 'breakables' that aren't furniture to schloorp up all the tasty drops
note that you won't always find the hives; make sure to visit the spots many times while exploring and keeping a beekeeper suit handy helps.
