Classic. Base location.
Where do you build the base in the starting sector? Then move the base to the second? I did it the first time I played through a year ago)) not a very good idea.

My favorite base spot in the first sector is.. in the offices(?) on the roof(?). In the place where there is a good back bag and at the very top, through the mini-elevator. There is plenty of space, it is safe and there is one socket. True, the cart used to fit very poorly through the elevator, it went up, but it was too wide to go down. I really don't understand why people don't like this spot. You can even practice shooting there all night.

Is the base on the roof floor of the store in the lab still working? I want to move there in the future.

My first base was in the security office area next to the Cafeteria, then I moved out to the offices behind the Kizz Cola machine in the Lab area. I stayed there a bit, but then moved into the World in the Mirror.

I tried moving into the penthouse area in Power Services but disliked how assault events had enemies spawning on the second floor of the area, then tried the crane in the Buoyancy Lab but really hated how enemies would then spawn inside the crane itself during events, specifically in the middle of where my base was.

So now I'm back in the Mirror World. I'm not sure if you can establish a base in the Furniture Store.

Why not? I've never done it myself, but I've heard it's possible. The only thing you'd need is a teleporter so you can get in and out quickly.
I'm mainly asking this because I'm worried about my base getting destroyed, because it's a Portal World.

Other than that, it's a great place. A terrifying amount of space, a nice light rain sound, no enemy spawns, and a gigantic amount of loot at the bottom of the elevator. If you don't press the buttons, zombies don't appear, they say.

And as I just read on Reddit, built things don't disappear, but they can clip if you build something in the place of a destroyed item.
My first base was also the security office between manufacturing entrance and the office sector. Locking down the front made it easy for me to just guide all the enemies to their death thru the locker entrance on the side of it. Spacious too.

My second base was the Hydroplant apartments, due to the comfier setting of proper bedrooms, so I made each room it's own thing. One for sleeping/eating, one for crafting/gear storage, and the last for my collection of IS objects and such.

Both the mirror world and the furniture store cannot be invaded, so they make prime locations if you hate base assaults. I personally use both these worlds for storage and form my large crop farm.

If you want to bypass the elevator in the Furniture store, I used a wooden bridge on the top of it and put a rope vine plant on it, so it's easy access up and down without needing to hit the switches and letting the zombies in.

I'm currently moving my main base to the nice building right inside of reactors tho. My egghead deserves to live comfier after all this ♥♥♥♥ he's been thru.

Dunno, never tried it myself, or thought about it really. I just picked the Mirror World and have been content with it since, though if the devs add anymore crafting stations I might consider moving my base somewhere else.

Honestly, the security room/Cafiteria right at the start remains one of the better places for the whole playthrough, since later shortcuts tend to all be attached to the first plaza area.
I started in the kitchen of course but moved by the office that's filled with electrified water. The low ceiling, door and dividers lend itself to a nice cozy space with sectioned off areas for different functions.

Later I ended up moving across the trams, taking up the entire section on the other side of the skywalk that goes over the trams. It's a lot more convinient, but I tend to use the special leg armor all the time anyhow so I don't need great vehicle access. When the game launches I might do another playthrough and build in that office again.

The base progression with my friend throughout the entire playthrough since before the weather events update came out went like this: Security room next to the cafeteria in the office sector -> upper level of the security space with a ladder near the elevator to silo 3 -> second floor of the forge -> furniture store on the second floor -> back to the office cafeteria (mainly because it's the best endgame base with lots of space). Although one thing I've discovered is that there's a MASSIVE empty space atop the Cloud Reactor building that can rival that of an office cafeteria, although it's a bit smaller and requires a jetpack to get to at first; nonetheless, it looks very unique in my opinion.

I build around the fountain in the plaza. End game I'm still there because moving base is annoying

For a large part of my run having access to the trams was super handy. Until I got the personal teleporter. Then slowly started making tiny outposts for just a workbench and charger. But I had already stock piled a lot of random crap so moving my base anywhere would be time consuming. So I just stayed in the plaza while building out my network of outposts as slowly stopped using trams. Now with the portals I I have those everywhere I used to have outposts but still it would take me something like an hour to move my stuff so it just never going to happen.

Moral of the story if your playing solo your first base is most likely going to be your forever base.

I played with a couple of friends and our base throughout the whole game was in the locker rooms/gym/kitchen right next to the swimming pool in offices. We put up chopinators and then lazer turrets in the bigger doorways leading out to the office, and nothing ever bothered us from the other entryways. All the free water and fish we needed, a bunch of free storage space, even has its own bathroom.
After being made aware of a shortcut that opens up later in the game I genuinely cannot justify any base location other than the starting cafeteria without an established teleportation network.
First: Sec office in the cafeteria, we were scaredy cats to go anywhere else to begin with.
Second: Sec office between office and manufacturing west. Because Vibes.
Third: Cascade office area above the aquarium by that garage area. Because pretty.
Fourth: Apartments in Hydro. Because dang is that buncha oven burners and rooms to build in are just too nice. Everything else is reached via personal teleportatos at this point, or I just walk there like a normal person who isn't wrecking their way through science and making good choices lol.

I like the nice looking area at the back of data farm. Incredible view of hydro plant makes for an aesthetically pleasing base. The stairs give it a nice multi tier feel to it. And its pretty easy to defend so far. Very close to entrance and exit of security. Easy access to entrance of hydro plant. Tram to get you to reactors.

For early game it has a restroom, water, and charger nearby. Oh and an always on laser not too far away for late game. Did I mention the awesome view?
