You aren't forced to do nothing but hide. You can play more aggressively even while using the crystal armor. You can sidle up to guys and shoot them right in the face from a few feet away. They go down quick. You can move around a room picking off the adds one by one. Great for getting rid of the flying eyes that accompany the mystagogues or the regular foot soldiers. When you finally pick a fight with the gatekeepers big guys, they're solo with no backups.
I carried two deatomizers, and a laser cell to recharge them. I'd use the regular beam mode to kill the normal foot soldiers. I'd only use the overcharge mode for the big things, like jotuns.
Bring a jetpack. There's a couple of places where I think I cut through some of the puzzles by just jetpacking over walls, and up broken stairways. I'm pretty sure I did some parts backwards and upside down.
