How are the updates going ?
Hey everyone ! Just found out about this game. It looks promising.
The only issue is the early access. Ive had some bad experiences in the past, so i was wondering how are the dev handling it.
Do the updates make sense ? Are they big enough ? Do you think the game will be fully completed at some point ?
thx

huge updates at a reasonable wait time

the question if they are big enough cannot be answered as i have no idea what you personally define as "big enough" in that regard without getting an example to compare it towards.

the updates do make sense. they come in logical order as every big update adds a new sector to explore which is always at the end of the current content.

given there is only 1 major update left that does not have a release date and thier roadmap is pretty clear that this final 1.0 end of early access update is planned to arrived in spring of 2025 yes. this game will get finished. nothing speaks againist this for now. if you dont wanna risk early access just wait until about may of 2025. by then 1.0 should have either released or atleast have a release date ready. be warned that game price will most likely increase then aswell.

so far they have keep to thier roadmap and even added some minor updates in between that where not part of the roadmap. the newest big update got a delay sadly as they couldnt finish it in time for christmas as it was originally planned for a late autuum release. but it now has a fixed release date on february 4th. so it didnt get delayed massively.

overall this was the best early access game i played in 2024. the polish of the game is insane for an early access title. the art style and design ideas behind it are not for everyone of course.

don`t forget that you can always ask for tips on discord and here, or look things up on the wiki

There are actually 2 Major Updates left. The 2nd one was pushed back a month or so and we were given a decent Christmas update. Otherwise the release schedule is more or less on track. The 2nd Major Update will be happening soon and is expected to be quite large.

The current store page rating kind of speaks for itself, and even if you don't trust that there are more than a few content creators on YouTube that can give you an idea on how it plays.

As for the updates, they are very cohesive, make sense, and regular with a mix of major and minor updates. After watching the devs for a few months I'd be shocked if they don't complete the game on time or close to on time.

Yeah this isn't a case of devs burying the roadmap after the first year, they've just steadily corrected it by tiny amounts and the roadmap should be done this next year, barely a year after it was first posted.

I'm extremely critical of early access titles since the scene is rife with scammers, bad practices, and boot lickers defending the people scamming them with their very lives. Abiotic Factor is probably the only EA title I've ever seen that actually stuck to its original schedule and is putting out significant updates at a good pace. They very clearly care about what they're doing and I trust they'll deliver exactly what was promised at this point.

The only reason I haven't bought it yet myself is I just prefer to wait until any game is complete so I can play it in its best form. This one is a guaranteed buy for me, though.

then you might wanna crosscheck your claims. as the roadmap actually got altered 3 times by now. so the game didnt actually stick to its original schedule like you claim there.

that beeing said they are still doing a good job despite that. but no early access game ever really sticks to its originally planned schedule. most dont even have one with an update order to begin with. roadmaps are a outline. not a promise. this game is no exception.

they even considered updateing it beyond 1.0 already anyway. but i guess how far that goes depends on sales. game is still largely under the radar for most as it targets a certain audience of players with its design and style.

Don't worry you made a good choice. Abiotic Factor is leagues above most early access games and quite a few full release games. I have over 100 hours and I just started a new save with some friends that just got it and they are having a blast.

If it's been changed, it was to such a small degree that I wasn't able to notice. Not ideal, but I'd never expect a release to follow a roadmap down to the second regardless. It's the kind of devs who regularly push things back for years and make their original claims look like a joke that are a huge problem to me. I'm totally cool with minor delays that are justified and don't meaningfully impact things.
