Save Resetting?
I'm not sure what's going on.
Tbh, I had the game through less-than-legit means for a bit before getting enough money to buy it. I transferred my data and save, changed my save file to match my steamid, and everything worked great. I played for hours and got off for the day. Got back on, and saw my world was still as I left it, but my save reverted to when I purchased the game, so all my character data didn't save.

Thought it was a weird bug, so I just played again and got close to where I was before. I forced a world save, got off, got back on, and my character save was reverted yet again.

Anyone have an idea of what's going on? It would really suck if I couldn't continue my playthrough after putting in so much time and buying the game.

Weirdly enough, even the less-than-legitimate copy is loading the old character save as well, so I'm not sure that this is related to that.

Edit: So looks like I have an idea of what's going on. It seems that while I changed the filename to match the SteamID, it still registers the character as another. So it'll load the character, then make another save with a different string when I quit. And it'll keep loading the original one instead of the new save. And when I delete the save (either one, doesn't matter), it still loads the original point and creates another save file with that other string.

So likely has something to do with the way it recognizes that character per save file, likely by name.

If I had to guess it might have to do with the Steam ID number inside the file. It is near the end of the file if you open it up in a text editor (like Notepad.exe, found in all Windows computers). If you change that to what is needed the game might recognize it.

Also there might be a world ID number in there as well. Someone else might have a better idea on what's going on.

You're a life saver. It's still about 4 hours of lost progress, but that's so much better than it was.
When I opened it in Notepad++ and saw all the NULL, I didn't think to CTRL+F and look for the problematic ID string. Replacing that string with the proper ID seems to have fixed the issue.
Glad it helped! :steamhappy:
