PC On Fire (AKA heating up) despite running fine?
So, me and my friends have noticed the game has one hell of an optimization issue, and I thought everyone had this but I'm not sure.

Whenever we play, despite the game running perfectly fine for us with all graphical settings, it overheats our PCs to hell and back, and I hear my fans at their maximum too, it's crazy. The game runs fine, but this overheating happens even with the game at pretty low settings. Any tips for settings combinations that can fix issues like this?

For context, my PC has an overheating issue right now, and tends to freeze when being too hot for a while, so while I know it could probably deal with the heat just fine, my PC can't in its current state, and I can't do anything about it just yet.

From what I've heard, the heating issue might be coming more from the CPU than from the GPU. I've got my FPS capped pretty low (at a little over half the uncapped frame rate) and it still gets pretty warm.

yeah game runs warm but plays great
its been this way since next fest demo at the start of the year
this just something you have to live with for better or for worse

personally speaking- my GPU says it runs at 'bout 65-68 degrees Celsius when I run Abiotic factor- I've taken to turning off the game for 10-20 minutes every hour or so just in case it's underestimating how hot it is in there.

Limit FPS, disable CPU Turbo, slap some PTM on that CPU, enjoy the Silence.

It's the obvious answer but are you limiting your FPS?

You don't need your game to run at 100+ FPS. (unless you're playing a competitive shooter)

It's just adding wear and tear to your CPU.

I usually limit games to 80 FPS through NVidia Control Panel.

My monitor only supports 60 fps, so I would hope my game is limited to that.

CPU and GPU are different things. Lowering the max FPS isn't going to do much for the CPU. Several people have reported on getting unusually hot CPU temps while playing. Capping your FPS can help with your GPU temperature, but not you CPU (which handles level loading, NPC behavior, and other systems).

If I recall correctly, the devs have said that they do know about some sort of CPU bottleneck that they are trying to figure out, but I'm puzzled as to why regardless of CPU specs the game seems to always causes an unusual amount of heat on systems, and yet I haven't heard of any reports of oddities related to poor CPU performance.

Of all the people that would notice an issue it would be players like me with an old CPU. What I have is two generations too old for listed minimum specs (I have a i7-6700K aka 6th gen, where an 8th i5 is recommended minimum), but yet the game still apparently runs just fine. I should expect my CPU to be struggling while the newer CPUs should be a Chad and handle it with no issues.

It feels like there are some un-throttled game processes that are going on and is eating up processor time when it doesn't need to, leading to chronic overheating.

Ah thanks for clarifying.

I guess we can only hope the devs will squash it soon.

Honestly the only technical issues I've noticed is when running around the Labs/Containment Sector the game stutters really bad.

I assume because it's loading/unloading chunks but it's really noticeable and breaks the flow of gameplay, especially if I need to run back and forth.

I've had certain portions of this game actually cause an overload which tripped my UPS. The City office being one area that does this that I can recall. After capping my FPS I have noticed a difference, but I'm too afraid to head back to that area to test it out.
