What will be the point of the Gatekeepers?
In the Halloween update, they tease the gatekeepers as enemies, but I could have sworn they were apart of GATE, so why would they attack GATE scientists? Even if I was wrong about my assumption about them being apart GATE, the NPC at the entrance to the sealed security sector whose name I had forgotten is said to be a gatekeeper and they don't attack the player. Will these gatekeepers be NPCs? Will they be allies? If you have any idea, please share, because I cannot wrap my head around it.

I dont think it necessarily implies they're enemies, just that they're intimidating. They're GATE's equiv of SCP's MTF teams.

Though I can imagine they could get tasked with uh....
Cleanup.

It makes sense their intimidating, but what will they do? You think they'll just walk around killing order soldiers and aliens and then just ignoring the player?

The Sister of the Unlost heavily implies that while you are coworkers and the Gatekeepers will not harm you in the current Sectors of Offices, Manufacturing, or Labs that it is not the case for other Sectors of the facility and Gatekeepers will kill you if you enter those zones.
It could simply be GATE protocol: we do not have the clearance to be there so we must die.

I think the game will do a big TWIST and reveal that they actually are quite insane and evil guys and you'll just have to tear the whole place down including them

We already have our HECU. My guess? Basically just Barneys on steroids. Either way, we're not seeing them until October at the earliest, and I don't think the devs have fleshed them out very much yet (though I could be wrong on that), so really any speculation is pointless.

Keep in mind they're the only things on the roadmap whose image isn't even a prototype screenshot. I don't know if this was done on purpose, but if it wasn't the devs haven't even fully modelled them yet.

One of them is dead in the hallway in the turret section in Labs, another one is currently the "there's no content left here" woman on the way to security sector.

I used to think that the dead gatekeeper was going to be a heavy order unit

I also thought that until someone reminded me to look at the roadmap during that discussion

Yes, but I mean haven't fully modelled ALL of them.

We might find out how the Order's been killing them, and help them on quests to contain some of the worst IS's we've yet to see.

Quests in a survival crafting game would be an interesting sight.

Gatekeepers are more akin to 'heroic' level characters, so I can imagine them fighting you in a much different way than existing enemies in the game... Like scripted AI fights where they teleport, cloak, and cast spells, and harass you throughout the map or something.

If a Leyak can spawn and harass you, then Gatekeeper that you offend is worse.

For instance due to the artifacts they've got, they might not go down easily, you could wound them and they 'retreat' by teleporting away. Then you have to keep progressing your story until you get to a point where you could kill or ambush them maybe?

Basically, it's a field boss, that can't die to players, and is only 'changed' in a scripted event for a later portion of the game... They harass players out in the open outside their base basically.

Might even be after you deal with the Leyak, so you contain that thing again, but now you have a Gatekeeper boss stalking you like Nemesis from Resident Evil, forcing you to rely on stealth or something. More funny is if stealth means 'VOIP' ingame would easily reveal you to that boss and he teleports to murder you.

with this i'm confused why gatekeepers would friendly fire

Exactly! Why do the uber Barneys want to kill you all of a sudden? They seem like nice enough guys.
