Anything to do in the Mapping Center?
Going up the road ramp next to the F.O.R.G.E., you'll see the surface tunnel is blocked. To the left is a road way back to the entrance by the Office Sector. To the right is an opening to the mine but going straight reads you to the Mapping Center. I flipped that area up and down and found nothing, just one of those special chests. The area seems to big for just a chest and a forklift I can't even get back without dropping it down a roof to storage

that machine with the 2 air compressor looks highly sussy though, kinda looks like a machine to knock down the gate it is facing.

I hope they expand on that area.
Maybe have the drill be a wave defense while you drill through as a reference to Payday.
That'd be pretty cool

It is mainly just a spot to farm more of the Order or a neat base location.
The air compressor door has a literal rock wall and nothing else behind it and the ladder/staircase nearby with a locked door in the middle also has nothing behind it.

Considering you can see a lot of future/blocked content in a rough draft form when out of bounds and there is actually nothing here makes me think this is it sadly.
okay thought as much. I swore I was going insane because "there's no way this big area has just an Ornate chest". Also surprised I didn't get the Air Compressor recipe there, probs somewhere else
You can use a rope to descend to the trains which lets you out around the radioactive room, but I don't remember exactly where, but from the train you can see stuff under the mapping center, it's been a while and I can't remember what I saw over there tho, because I gave up trying to get over there when big jump failed lol

I used platforms and fall damage to get to the other side of the destroyed tracks.

All that's there is a power cell and an outlet.

Shortcut loops up to the building.

My guess is that it'll be the shortcut to part of one of the the new arias.

I'm having trouble thinking of any cross-sector shortcuts at the moment that didn't route through offices, so I think it's mostly futureproofing for potential sector expansions. It's easier to not mess up someone's base in an update when the only edit to the level you need to do is unlock a door.

It isn't really in the direction of any specific Sector we know, the closest is Residential but that would require a sharp right turn and an extremely long hallway.

It will probably connect to Manufacturing East which was originally planned to be exist where Labs is as seen on the Office Map. I don't know if they still plan to have M.E be a location in the game as the only implication that it should exist is Manufacturing "West" and an outdated map.

There's a decent chance that it's not supposed to be a 'sector' either.

Given that the Order are clearly trying to cut through to the other side might imply there's storage or a route to somewhere that's not a highlighted feature.

But yeah. It might be a remnant from M.E

Hell, it could end up being a lore thing. M.E still exists just a sector we never get to see. Honestly I would like to see more side areas that aren't directly related to story progression. Getting to poke around the facility more, without being told to, would be a good change of pace. As it stands the Mapping Center, Mines and the Laser Labs are optional.

The map of the Manufacturing Sector is rotated compared to the maps of the other two sectors.

We can see doors leading to Manufacturing East around the Synchrotron area. Manufacturing East would probably be located "south" of the labs if we ever get to explore it.

The mapping center is on the far west side of manufacturing and not close to any known teased sectors. However, it could be a nice place to put an optional portal world behind that door in the future.

Air compressors perhaps parts of a human scale pneumatic tube transport system. :D

I completely forgot about that door and the Eastern Tunnel door near the start of labs.
After mentally trying to map it out, I am pretty sure now that Manufacturing East is the flooded area you can see to the right of CURIE Containment Block.

I don't think we are actually going to get to explore M.E unless it becomes an escape attempt quest to drain M.E to access the Eastern Tunnel later in the game.
It was already flooded before the Order showed up which explains why nobody suggests the Eastern Tunnel as an option of escape so far.

How do we know it was flooded before Order? GATE doesn't seem to be the type to let a whole sector go just because a little water got in.

It could have been a recent flooding, things love to go wrong in these types of facilities.
