Edit: It is so broken that the game doesn't even bother checking to see if you have any or not when you try to fix something with Duct Tape. Usually it would give an error if you don't.
Thankfully the Repair Bench works, but that means no in the field repairs or early on repairs until you can make that bench.
all this time iv just been using it for crafting
"Used in crafting recipes and can repair items in a pinch."
It only repairs 5 durability, which is OK enough for early on or when needing something working right now.
Honestly, you aren't missing out on too much if you didn't use it for repairs. People have use up too much tape for repairs and wound up lacking when they needed it.
Seems like it's better to use than at early game then beating monsters and boxes with broken tools for a minute straight, which is what my problem is.
Given how fast the last patch was, and how bad this one is (strongly impacting the early game), I'd imagine another hotfix is on the way. I think the major delay to it is making sure the patch counts (adding in other fixes along the way) and whatever stuff they'd have to do on their end to get it published.
Apart from the ducktape why cant we repair these early items with some of their components atleast on the crafting station?
Like the improvised club is literally just pipes screwed together, why cant we just unscrew the broken bit and replace it with a new pipe? Why do we need a station for it?
As for that specific example with the Pipe Club, given it is a pipe, pressure gauge, and glue to make, the threads are likely glued together and can't be unscrewed.
In short, it's game mechanic progression. It follows its own slightly modified and simplistic logic.
