Finding hammers?

I'm starting to poke around level 3, but I haven't seen a single hammer anywhere. Is this weird? I'm starting to worry about it.

There's a hammer in a toolbox to the right under a stairwell right as you're entering the lobby from the cafeteria at the beginning of the game!

Pretty sure I've looted that exact toolbox. I did not get a hammer.

I have at least half a dozen screwdrivers, but that doesn't really help...

Are you playing by yourself, with friends, or are you on a public server?
If you're by yourself, it should be easy enough to find. Just look around in toolboxes as the other guy stated before me.
If you're playing with friends & can't find one, ask one of them as they might've picked all them up.
If you're playing on a public server, best hope item respawning is on.

I know of at least two spots - one is in a toolbox up the ladder in the toilets in the cubicle farm area on Level 2, one in a toolbox in the tight hallway/tunnel above the pool

Yes, right, except for the fact that the hammers are not there. I don't think the entire subject of the thread should be hard to understand.

If you use public servers, the signs that someone is messing around is if you see bases created but with gaps in the structures like misaligned layouts and such. Once furniture are taken or destroyed, they never come back.

They should add in some sort of construction fabrication machine into the game to 'craft' furniture though.

It would be nice to be able to craft furniture. Give it it's own catagory, you have to have successfully deconstructed one to craft it, make it out of whatever it deconstructs into, etc.

Honestly, public servers should have stuff respawn just so any rando isn't left high and dry with a cold start.

Found the one in the location above the pool you mentioned. I hadn't gone through there before.

I'm at a point in my playthrough where I think I've run out of hammers. Not sure if there is one reliably in a portal world. If we can make a makeshift screwdriver, and homemade drills, why not a repair hammer? Failing all else, couldn't the Blacksmith forge one for us if we give him materials? Just a suggestion more than anything.

I actually find it kind of strange that the developers found the concern for running out of screwdrivers high enough to warrant a screwdriver recipe, but not a hammer.

How do you run out of hammers or screwdrivers? Aren't they non-consumable?

They can be deconstructed, thrown in a pit, or despawn on the floor like some things do occasionally. It's theoretically possible to run out, which is why a craftable backup is ideal.

In my case, I tried to micro-manage my inventories and have a 'toolbox' where I kept 1-2 of each type of tool, to prevent chests full of screwdrivers, etc. I would repair a hammer every now and again. I've misplaced the hammer *somewhere*, it might have fallen on the ground or be in a random medkit on a wall.

It does seem like a glaring omission to not be able to make your own hammer, or have the Blacksmith make them for you (which would present one more material sink).

There are at least 7 hammers in the game by the time you clear Manufacturing. I say at least because I had a goal of collecting one row (6x1) of each tool in the game and storing them in a crate. Once I got past 6 hammers in a crate and 1 in my inventory, I have been scrapping the rest. I'm in Labs now and I remember still coming across them now and again. I would estimate there are at least a dozen in the game, and considering you can repair each infinitely with metal scrap, there should be enough for a full lobby to have one and a spare. Don't drop items, take a screenshot of where you put something if your inventory is full, look through your crates, its simple really.
