If you mean the giant robots that usually come out of the recharger ports, yes, and infact to progress you actually NEED to, as they are a requirement for a "computation brick" (dont worry, it gets far easier as you go)

build a chompinator

only way to be sure :D

If you have a spear, you can rather easily keep them at a certain range where you can hit them but they won't lunge at you. Takes a little getting used to but it works. Their weakpoint is the little black ball "eye" they have, but hitting it can be a bit finnicky.

A simpler way is to kite the robot that patrols the main Office lobby around the fountain. You'll still need a spear for the extra range, but it should be far more manageable. It'll take quite a few hits, so if you're playing on Default settings, bring 2 spears, as the first one will break.

Build a few shock traps, using 1 energy brick, 1 stapler and 1 coil each. These traps stun and damage any enemy that steps on them, and then recharge after roughly 10 seconds once the enemy steps away. You can set up those traps in a circular pattern around some obstacle then aggro the robot and run circles making the robot step on the traps. You can also take advantage of the stun the traps inflict and land a few hits with your weapon of choice. Robots are resistant to blunt damage though, so you're better off using something sharp like a spear. You can make a makeshift spear using 1 standing lamp, 1 knife, 1 desk phone and 4 duct tape.. There is also an area in the early industrial sector where there's electrified water on the ground. Not too far from it there is a charging station - if you hit the robot charging on it a few times, it will aggro and follow you to the electrified water where it will promptly die. Alternatively you can do the same thing during night time - the electrified water remains electrified then as well.

chopinator strat from the demo still works. set up a lever and chopinator near the robot charging station then whack the charging station till it breaks which will cause the robot to come out even during the daytime. then run back to your chopinator, flip the lever and duck under the blades. bring a hammer to repair the chopinator while it wrecks the robot (stay a slight distance away as the robot can still hit you while its trying to destroy the chopinator). easiest way to kill robots until you get the electro cannon

Dont trigger or try to kill the robots early on. Once you get access the silo level 3 via the portal, lure the robots/monsters to the electrically charged water pool. Make sure they step on the water pool. BAM! You got yourself CPU and other loots. Very easy!

Work SMART, not Work HARD. Dont waste your weapons' ammo on them. The robots are very tanky!

Craft a shock trap and a push cart. Put the shock trap infront of a doorway and the cart's handle to block it.

The Robot will get stuck on it and get shocked over time.

Heck if you backtrack a ton you can put shock traps where monsters spawns in often and have them outright die.... Btw momsters only spawns around players, so no one in the area means nothing will spawn.

Also all items dropped by creatures despawns if not dropped by a player, and no one is in the area for a long time...

But in portal worlds, you can leave items there on the ground by breaking down furnitures and stuff, it'll stay even if no one is around.

If you are gonna loot stuff in portal worlds, like ice cream, powered devices do not turn off I think every 9pm in portal worlds?

You can just as well use a Chopinator and repair it with a hammer as it kills the robot. Easy as pie.

You follow what the mouse over indicater is asking you to do, knife it.
I know, it's weird, but that's what you apparently use.

Though the CPUs should already drop upon death, but chopping it up gives scrap metal, Tech scrap, coils and a bit of glass.
