Where did you base, and how do you feel about it?
I decided to start building in the locker room because I thought hell yeah, free storage.
In retrospect it has been a pretty terrible spot, the security bot that spawns at data storage constantly bugs out and stays aggro throughout the day because there are so many enemies nearby, and then they also spawn near the pool exit going towards the lvl 3 elevator preventing me from sleeping.

I was looking to pack up and move to level three in some offices interconnected by a vent shaft but after clearing a pest from the second office, I checked out the third, turned around and when I went back in the second office there was one of those dog things already respawned in it. With enemies being so attracted to player built structures I was wondering where people have based, if anyone has found a spot their particularly proud of. I was thinking of going on the light fixtures above the data center on lvl 2. Thoughts?

I used to vibe in upstair of the gym, there's a peccary spawn downstair. Then moved on to the security office. But the metal frames made it awful to build on (and stuff often phase through the glass) and its position is only advantageous for accessing office & manufacturing locations, the travel time otherwise is terrible.

So i moved to the tram's waiting area. At the far end, on the other side. workbench covers the entire area, has plenty of space to settle. Only one way in so its very easy to secure, if raiders can even path to it, soldiers couldn't figure out how to get there. Only drawback is only one power socket.
It has water in the fountain nearby, a charging station next to the security booth, a robot station that always respawns and obviously, easy access to all the trams and all doors.

Personally, I think the kitchen + security room + break room area at the start is the best base location I have found so far.

If you place the crafting bench opposite the stove (next to the dead guy) you can cover the entire area with the home buff, and if you block the two doors, the only way in for enemies is the shutter door (you can still use the vent to drop into the kitchen if someone locks you out) - which means you can use that entire area as a base.

There is a fountain in the lobby area for a source of tainted water, and a charging station next to the security booth. While I initially thought that travel times would become a problem, it turns out that shortcuts to each of the areas all seem to connect to the lobby, either by doors (for using forklifts/carts) or by tram - so it doesn't take very long to get anywhere.

We only just got the portal storm prevention upgrade, so I don't know what will happen with base assaults, but normal enemies and Leyaks only spawn in the lobby, cafeteria (behind the double doors), or in the room behind the kitchen with the pipes and boxes - so defending the base from normal spawns is easy, and because it is mostly safe, the area outside the shutter doors is used to store the forklifts and carts.

Certain types of base assaults will spawn outside your base then attack you normally through pathfinding. These become more common the later in the game you get.

After opening Holmholtz Containment, a lot of "new" enemies become more common throughout the facility but I believe you can recontain them. I highly recommend a tesla coil at every entrance to your base.

Security office of the cafeteria. It has a rug that really ties the room together.

Not the green one? I've seen a few green ones but that's it. I've been picking them up and putting them in my base
i do believe that the starter area (cafeteria) is one of the best if not the best currently. its so central since almost all path just goes there. i really couldnt think there are too much downsides of settling there except maybe the aesthetics. it has everything you need and if it doesnt, its often easily solvable by building a makeshift solution. there are definitely some places that i would like to build a base, but the distance of places that i need to go by walking if i settle there will always discourage me to really do it

The Cafeteria security office has limited space and when we get the Security update, it's going to be quite the distance to travel. You should definitely have a base near to the tram network, but I recommend one in Labs or Manufacturing as those have easier access to all of the resources you'll need later in the game.

There's a little security office across the hallway from the lab in the office sector and directly above that office is this massive area that enemies just can't reach because the only access is a ladder.

It's nearly perfect as far as base spots go.

i just use the tutorial room by the starter kitchen and freezer.
-- tv's good background noise, place feels cozy.
Same, but the travel time back to base is starting to get on my nerves.

Me and my bud based in the Gym/locker/pool area next to the offices. It comes with a kitchen, a toilet, and water nearby. Not to mention a perfect storage system. It's absolutely amazing, and even has room to expand. Plus easy reach to bot farming.

It was initially less-than-safe since we moved there almost the instant we found it after leaving cafeteria, but once we got the choppas in play, it became fantastic.

I base on top of the ventilation in the massive office area.

No mobs mess with you there so you can build whatever you want and they won't destroy anything since this game has a problem of mobs going out of their way to destroy anything you place down.

Like if you find a couch they won't care but the moment you pick up that couch and move it somewhere else the enemy will go out of their way to tear that couch up lmao

I set up on top of the security booth where warren is, it's a great little spot as enemies can't get to and as for raids they all spawn next to the staff display where you can snipe them, it's central to all current sectors via the trams, has water via the fountain, and I expanded to the office for my kitchen, and the overhang above the bot charger for my garden, overall I love it

I just hated repairing the choppers every day. I thought it was goated too for the lockers and pool but now that I'm further in I'm realizing it's not a big deal at all. Storage is super cheap and 4 sodas from a bot will last more than a day. Tesla coil takes them down in like 2-3 shots, they won't even get an attack off on it.

BTW I finally reached the soldiers and wow, that other thread about them being sponges was ridiculous. With the xbow and regular spear they fell in 1 shot and 3 stabs. I even got caught in a bad position against 3 soldiers, and then an exor came after them and I survived half health just using the xbow. Only had the forge gloves, rest was employee of the month armor.

Not true, there's a teleporting enemy that shoots a bit later. They'll get up there and ♥♥♥♥ your base up.

My first base is at Balcony area on 2nd floor, just before the Data Farm office. I usually take that spot in the early game before getting a Hacking materials. After I can Hack 1st access security card. I move in just behind the security guy that lock himself with supply stuff (I appreciate a permanent npc friend nearby.)

The place is small and tight, so you have to properly manage your furniture, working bench, storage, etc. So far, it's really good since there's only tight entrance that you can block with barricade. For defense it's quite decent. No portal can spawn near NPC so usually they would appear outside the base. The only bad thing is, if you're invaded by the militia. you have to kite them around before actually arrived at your base. The Security robot at the first floor will not spawn after you camp in there, so it's really safe. (a bit unfortunate thing that Pak Rats also will not spawn near the fountain.)

I play solo, so most of the time, I like tight and small place.

my bro and i based up in the little security office right at the start next to the cafeteria, everything seems to loop around to that main lobby of offices so we haven't had to move.

I thought about this spot. where the coffer maker is right?
