Cloth rope.

I've figured out how to do many things as a scientist so far, but I cannot find any way to successfully place this cloth rope...

Any of you well educated scientist men and women figured it out yet?

just place it down, on an ledge.
-- you'll be able to place it when it shows blue instead of red.

Place it at the top of a ledge facing down. The arrow should be facing you.

The rope needs to hang over the ledge, so place it as close to the actual drop as you can.

You have to be from above, aim it at the edge, unobstructed. There isn't many places where you can make use of one. :(

You may need to rotate the hook to align it with the ledge, and you may need to be above the rope, not below (in the spot you'd slide down FROM).

In my experience, it tends to "hook" onto the ledge farther out than I imagined it would, so it makes sense to just put it out far from the edge and bring it closer until it goes green.

FYI the 'rope plants' (after grown successfully and harvested) can be placed the same way.

Cloth rope only lets you climb down, you have to get an item later in the game to have an up and down rope. I hope in the future the devs change the text that appears so its not as misleading as me and my friends also thought leveling your strength was the answer.
