Is farming suppose to be so difficult?

I planted some tomato seeds and last night they were 3/5 complete but today I loaded up my save and they were dead.

The water in the planter goes down really quickly. When heading out on a couple outings I almost lost a plant because of this.

It might need to be toned down some, or give it a bigger tank.

In the Demo, you could fill it up and almost forget about watering it for the rest of the game.

Honestly, between how little food tomatoes are worth, how quickly the water goes down in the hydroponics stations, and how every bloody container has a couple bucks in it, it's genuinely easier to just survive on a steady diet of Pest Goulash and whatever you can scavenge out of the vending machines.

I agree that 'ponics was overpowered in the demo, but this has gone so far in the opposite direction that it's not even worth doing now, particularly while playing solo.

Thanks for the replies. Since I'm playing solo and how much water it consumes, you're probably right, I should avoid gardening since it takes up too much water (especially if tomatoes don't fill you up).
