How's the solo experience
As someone who has poor Internet and usually unavailable friends

I'm wondering what's the solo experience like? Still fun?

You don't need to play co-op at all if you don't want. It's perfectly fine (and fun) solo.

It's definitely better in the office (starting area), but it's pretty good overall. There's a handful of areas that are probably easier with more players (*eyes Flathill*), but the game is very playable solo.

And the advantage of playing solo is that you only have to worry about having enough water for one person and some plants; I suspect that more players likely makes water a fair bit harder to keep stocked up as the game goes on.

It's okay, i little bit boring.

Hey Boom, so just a heads up the game has customization out the ying-yang when you go to start your run. I'd suggest for a singleplayer run if you're looking to experience the game in a fun way for the first time:

Double/Triple item stackability (can carry twice/three times as much because it's just you)

Enemies do 70 percent damage (you can get pinned by too many enemies early on)

Enemy spawn rate to 50 percent (That way you can sort of take your time)

XP gain speed to 2 or 3 times (Only you in there, it's okay to Gordon Freeman a bit Brother Armyofone)

Item Weight multiplier to 50 percent (lets you carry more without encumbrance)

Respawn penalty set to keep all items (It's just you, if you die in a hotly contested area you have to run back to get your things... and may die 50 times doing so)

These are just my ideas and my current singleplayer run, but I've also been playing for a while so I know what I'm doing. You can play with basic settings but it will be quite a bit harder for Joe Everygamer.

I think I'll use your setup when I try my solo run

I'm 8 hours in and it's been good.
Definitely slower than playing with friends since I can only carry so many resources and I'm not able to zerg down enemies, but not nearly as slow and difficult as I feared.
I'm playing with default settings.

I only played a little less than 2 hours but I'd say that playing solo is really like playing Half-Life but with survival elements, and yeah still fun and pleasant, plus you can change settings of your world to your liking for the perfect solo experience, examples with Ramsis post, so for me with my low play time it's a yes

Hate to break it to you but you might die on that hill. Theres been a few already that have while waiting.

Using default settings the game isn't hard, I think I died twice in 15 hours, one time it was clearly because I got too greedy. The only setting I would change would be those related to water as watering plants constantly is just too tedious (probably the same in MP).

Most of my skills are already at 50%+ without trying and I just got done with the 2nd portal out of the 6 (i believe) in Early access. Maybe slightly lower enemy spawn rates as I think they spawn a bit too often, it doesnt make it hard but sometimes Ill sneak around if I go back to an area I just cleared because I dont want to waste time fighting again. I wouldnt touch any other setting.

Im hoping we get mods that add something like buildably bots/deployable turrets. Wishful thinking.

iIt's great solo.
The only setting I changed is disabling the loot drops on death.
Solo it's just a Grind-fest but all the loot is yours and if you kill the 10 enemies you can start killing the first Re-spawn of the sector you're trying to kill :D Also it might be a bug or it's just me!! ! But the balance is all wrong. The enemy solo is quite simple, but all the ranged weapons you can make until the plains are quite slow when reloading and can only hold one shot and after killing 400 military units I only found 3 pistols that I could use, but couldn't fix it! !!! I have about 30 Magnums and 30 SMGs in mint condition and I have the ammo to boot, but I can use them without the skills and bio-metrics that you can only find in the next zone ? I don't know not that far yet
