Having trouble finding food
Im having a blast with this game. I'm used to playing survival games with much simpler mechanics - and that may be my problem. I'm slowly adapting to this "don't fight, use your brains".

I got the survival aspects quite under control (the tired mechanic is great!) except for reliable food source. Even water hasn't been a problem until now, although I have yet to find a way to ensure renewable water - but it's never been an immediate threat, and I have the feeling I will find a solution in the long run.

Eating on the other hand is a real beast for me. I'm in the office, I finally found the kitchen, but safe for 2 tomatoes and a raw potato, its empty. I found an odd snack or two in the cubicles. But for all this, my char is still constantly very hungry.

I read somewhere that there are soups that are OP, but I have to craft a special hose before I can use the stove.

My question would be: as soon as I get the stove running, will food become less of an issue? Or am I missing something more basic in the food system?

there is a free cooking spot in the cafeteria kitchen that you can use for soups and frying(had the porkchop on it) and you can use a knife on dead critters(if you don;t net stomp them) to get meat. donlt worry too much about rads from cooked meat, iodine tablets can help. lastly ofc there is also vending machines if you're in a pinch.

Discover the craftable cooking station and soup and you will drown in food

find soil, make garden plot, find some potatos or make super tomatos and you`re golden

Are you not cooking the meat from the enemy drops? Those fill your hunger significantly more than the vending machine snacks or vegetables. Even if you kill nothing but pests, they should be dropping rumps and raw pests to cook in the stove downstairs. Don't bother trying to repair the broken stoves you find in kitchens- they require reinforced hose which is so far later in the game that it isn't worth holding off just crafting your own stove.

This.
It is is so much easier and quicker to build the makeshift stove... :) Though i must say, those fried carbuncles and pests really dont yield that much nutrition :-/ Well, just gotta find bigger game to hunt.

Then again i discovered that when you die, you respawn with your food stats halved, so quickest solution if you dont find food is dying near your spawn - just like many other survival games, youre never in a dead-end situation. Takes a bit off the pressure from pure surviving, now i can concentrate on the game.

Just found out how to get fresh water - man, that sink requirement (though totally logic! after all, its steaming hot!) really had me for a while :D

I setup in a little room next to the locker room pool. I just fill a pot with pool water and put in on my makeshift stove, then bam, free water. There's even a water cooler in the locker room itself you can steal and setup next to your stove so you can store the water you boil.

Exactly what I did, thanks!
Though I set up camp in the cafeteria office... Still marveling at the sheer size of the whole office area. And looking out the windows and seeing how much more there is - amazing, intriguing and impressive.

Yeah, the makeshift stove remains a very useful thing to craft 3-4 of even if it's just to boil water in bulk.
