But besides this, if I get hoghart as an enemy... he's usually the most worthy foe to fight me XD Ocasionally kills me if I'm not carefull....
As for traps, any trap list would be too dependent on other factors. For example w/o being T7 trap and having execution trigger, lightning based traps aren't worth it. Shorter maps make high cost builds like Arcane impractical, and if portions are unbuildable (ceiling or wall) then towers that work well in combination w/ other towers become quite ineffective.
If you had to pick an overall for damage sake (omiitting support based stuff like Mana well, powerup droppers, etc)
Tier 1: Physical, Fire
Tier 2: Arcane
Tier 3: Lightning, Physics
Tier fail: Ice
Physical has widest variety of efffective traps and generally high damage, and fire provides one of the best ways to do damage w/ floor traps.
Arcane is good, but the price to combo the traps is so high that it does poorly on short maps and in solo play on maps w/ large # of kill boxes.
Lightning requires T7 rare/epic traps for triggers to be good, and almost nobody would have T7 at this point. Physics are good, but too many maps have high heavy mob counts which limits their effect to just the accelarator damage boost.
Ice is hopeless. Ice Shards - good trap but ruined by trap limit. Saw's size doesn't fit in majority of kill boxes, and it is inferior to Ice shards except in its trap limit usage. Icicle Impaler requires manual triggering and any tower that does 0 damage if your hero isn't present doesn't work in this games play style of chase the exploders/unstable rifts. Ice vent is decent, but it can't produce stacks fast enough on its own. Since 3 out of the 4 Ice traps are floor based (and 4th being the useless Icicles) the only way this trap is effective is when you are using Hogarth or Tundra to supplement the stacks, which like the Icicle Impaler means it is ineffective when your hero isn't present.
Yeah just the shards can be kinda useful in maps when there are a lot of fire type minions or something. Which is maybe 2 maps or so?
Furthermore I would rank heroes based on certain aspects: 1) Do they have cc? Stun especially), 2) Their damage 3) Their mobility 4) Special
So max is a very average hero when it comes to mobility and below average for auto attack damage. He has stun and a good second attack which is good vs rifts and big minions. However, his special which gives a discount for all traps is really good. So for that reason alone I would not make him tier 3. Overall Max has a real nice mix of cheaper traps, mobility, cc, single damage and later on also some chain damage.
Cygnus can get a huge damage boost by being near a (selfmade) rift. Also he has chain lighting which can be heavily reduced in cooldown and can also stun minions. The only real problem he has is that when runs out of mana, he can't attack.
Oziel on the other hand seemed heavily depended on his spells. His auto-attacks seemed weak when I played him.
Furthermore, Stinkey is definitely Tier one when it comes to damage. He also has a stun. His main weakness is that he has a slow auto attack and bullet range, and slow movement speed. So if a minion slips through. It will be hard to catch up to it.
When it comes to traps: Brimstone, barricades, slowing tar and arcane bowling ball can pretty much clear most maps. I usually then also have ballistas and the wall blades.
And it looks like he'll be getting better with 1.8 coming out, i don't own Hogarth but i used him on the "Inferiority Complex" weekly and managed to get it done
Who would you say would be the best solo hero? Dobbin?
I like midnight or max. Midnight is fast and can take care of the fast minions. Max just has a good overall mix and especially the cheaper traps help for the early waves.
Things might change though, since there will be a patch tonight/tomorrow.
That was for 1.6, now we are on 1.8. I still believe Max is quite inferior than Tier 1 of that list, would place him Tier 2 maximum right now, has more options now and some buggs while keeping the support part.
Bloodspike got better, probably Tier 2 easily, way more sustained damage now. Temper would be aswell Tier 2, pretty strong E and reactivating traps with 3 knockbacks and stun.
Not played enough Hogharth yet to see how he changed.
The rest would stay as they are imho.
Tier 1: Bionka, Midnight, Blackpaw
Tier 1.5: Stinkeye, Gabriella (Both are slightly superior to the next ones)
Tier 2: Oziel, Cygnus, Dobbin, Max, Bloodspike
Tier 3: Zoey, Tundra, Smolder
Tier 4: Ivy, Hoghart
