The reason why the person on hard mode has a full base is because they likely completed easy mode and normal mode, accomplishing all the bonus objectives.
Do easy mode first, it will familiarize you with the units.
My point is that all the bonus seems to be rewarded if one plays the campaign on hard from scratch - which appears to create a point where hard is becoming easier than beginner
I'm just questioning if it's intended or if this is a sort of design flaw.
So seriously, I really don't think that the game is hard on beginner :/
Go to normal mode and get all stars (or at least 2) on first missions, it will help you a lot with units / batiments unlocked.
Our campaign is slightly different from other RTSs, where just playing it on “Beginner” mode would allow you to get from map 1 to the final chapter, this is I admit is true.
One of the main emphases of the campaign is that of having to collect and bring your units/structures back from the brink of extinction, by beating the assorted “Star” challenges found on each map.
“Beginner” mode is not merely a way to lower the AI difficulty setting for the map but also intended to ease the players into the concept collecting, as well as teaching the basic concepts of the game.
So “Beginner” mode for us is more of a way to allow players to familiarize themselves with the map as well as giving them a taste of how the AI thinks and reacts, and most importantly encourage them to return to beaten maps on a “Normal” mode in order to free their remaining units/structures. The further you can advance in “Beginner” will make “Normal” missions simpler…
Sorry for the “WTF” moment and I don’t feel I can give you a super satisfying answer, but it was our way of making the unlocking of each unit/structure more meaningful.
I probably wouldn't have any sort of problem to do the campaign on normal or even hard (I'm playing this type of games for 20+ years now).
The only point I'm making is: The campaign seems to turn out to get really "hard" on 'beginner' at a certain point - since you simply don't have the advancements you normally get in other modes.
Understand?
