To everyone complaining about the AI, It's not that.
I was just playing this game this past weekend on xbox 360 and the AI wasn't a problem, nothing was. In this port the zombies seem to be much more aggressive and faster, which makes it harder for survivors to evade.

Edit: I think what you guys are saying about the fps might have some truth, also what Keyblade said about the zombies having a longer reach, maybe the fps messes with the reaction time of the zombies which in turns allows them to grab you from a farther distance. I'm playing at locked 30fps from now on until i read about any improvement.

I don't really remember the zombies too well on the 360 version, but I'm pretty sure the survivor AI is exactly the same as before.

However, I actually had a LOT easier time getting Saint on the PC version than on the 360 version.

EDIT: Went back and watched some videos of 360 DR, and the zombies seem to have the same attack patterns.

I think the problem is both.
That's odd I have a buddy of mine hated the first game because how dumb the AI was. I even watched him play and I tried it out on his 360 a few years back. The AI fails to follow the right path line and just gets stuck on objects or walls just like in this port. The zombies do have a long lock on grab that's just annoying in this game.

I got the feeling as well. I wonder if the the bump to 60 made certain things wonky. Like how some games, the 60 fps actually makes QTE's impossible (im looking at you RE4)

Almost always does. I'm playing at 30 just in case. I never trust these PC releases of a game that was entirely designed for 30fps receiving a bump to 60fps. Remember RE4? It took them many months to fix the mess 60fps made to the game.

I get grabbed less on PC... then again I suck with controllers.

It's the AI system that is horrible and troublesome
1. if you observe closely, a survivor that is stuck in a horde will be stuck in a horde until you do something about it.
2. Their combat skill is extremely horrible too. Their shooting is not that accurate, their melee is not that strong either.

They literally have an aimbot, I'm not sure how much more accurate it can be, it's the same as Frank's auto targeting when standing still. The only thing that makes it inaccurate is the fact that zombies sway and move their hitbox even if they stand still or walk slow. Give them a shotgun and they'll hit 99% of the time due to the spread.

Their melee is fine as long as you give them weapons that 1-hit regardless of strength. Give a katana to at least one survior and it'll be fine.

The survivors were not meant to be combat companions. That's why you have to rescue them. While shotguns and katanas help, it's more due to the weapon than the skills of the NPC using them. They're supposed to be stupid. They're based on cliche B-movie dead-meats who see a loved one as a zombie and think they just need a hug and they'll be OK, so they wander into the crowd.
They also panic and freeze when surrounded, rather than beat feet out of there, because that's what the stupid and worthless do in horror movies, and the Hero has to save them.

Trouble is, the Hero typically dies saving one of these idiots, and the idiot makes it to the sequel.
Excusses, excuses... Yep the AI is aweful in this game, but it makes it kinda more of a challange for people to rescue all the ones within the mall. It can get annoying as hell too.

I didn't play DS on PS, but this version I once rescued like 5 survivors at the movie theatre and I couldn't get one back to the safe house. The mall was just packed wall to wall, and the ai's refused to fight, or walk to me or go to where I sent them. Isn't the zombie count much higher on PC too?

Zombie count is the same lol. The PC have sharper graphics, and 60 fps, so therfore it runs smoother, I think they added some anti-alising too... but beside that it's the same game. Kinda like a remaster.

I've been told that, but it suprises me. The PC DR1 has more zombies density than DR2 for me. I'm not exagerrating when I say it's often wall to wall in that first area. The only path is in the water fountains along the windows. In DR2 ther's pathways to run thru the crowds too. But in DR1 often, there's none.

Maybe the game was just harder than DR2 always. If so that is something.

I didn't die really at all, or have trouble with timers or maniacs in my one and only playthru, but like I said, getting survivors home sometimes felt impossible.

Yeah, well after some in game houers pass the mall can get really crouded in DR1. However, since the areas are way smaller than in DR2, I also think it feels as if there is way more zombies running around than it actually is. The AI of the zombies is also way more agressive and they are harder to toy around with. From my experience, yes the zombies are harder to handle in DR1, however the psychopath bosses are easier, especially since many times they tend to get stuck or one can find safe areas. As for survivals, I never bothered to save them... It's too much of a hasle for me. lol DR2 is more about experimanting with zombies and combo weapons, DR1 is running from point A to B in a rush, therfore zombies being the obstacles.

The survivor AI has always been terrible.

Either what kind of device you're playing on, AI survivors in DR1 are just more than plain horrible.

They'll run into zombies, they won't get out of grapple. They'll do their gestures before consuming food or using the weapon, and they'll drop it if they got interrupted. Their annoying call for help reminded me of Ashley in RE4 (coincidence? Cause she's equally annoying and frustrating to escort) They might even hit you. (trust me, one killed me with a shotgun by accident.) It's pretty frustrating just to escort one!

AI survivors in DR2 seen better days, as they'll tend to fight more effectively rather than shouting for help when they have a weapon in their hand.
