Dead Rising 1 is the best Dead Rising game - agree or disagree?
As a hardcore fan of the Dead Rising series and as someone who bought the first game the week it launched on the 360, I have to say it's easily the best dead rising ever

At first i thought it was the nostalgia (which I'm positive still plays a role) but when i replayed it on PC i realized why i loved it so much compared to the others

Yes controls are clunky and annoying, but the plot and characters are just 100x stronger than DR3 and DR2. DR2 was ok and it didn't really disappoint me that much, but DR3 was the biggest disappointment for me cause i didn't care about the characters at all and it felt more like a drama/comedy rather than the ''Mystery/Psychological Thriller'' of the first dead rising

What happened to the great scenes like 00:00- 3:00 ?? You cant find anything nearly this cinematic in other dead risings

I also really don't have high hopes for DR4 because Frank's voice actor is gone and it looks like it's just a game they're releasing to get cash , I mean in the game description it says Frank is back to the malls to uncover the truth about the zombie outbreaks - hasn't he already uncovered everything there is to know like 3x??

Also it looks like they're going for another comedy/drama thing instead of the mystery/thriller genre of the first Dead Rising. Remember how epic the fights against Carlito was??

I can't be the only one with this opinion right

I completely agree. I also might be alone on this, but the gameplay in DR1 feels so smooth and satisfying.

I agree. I recently played OTR and disliked how stiffly Frank moves in that game.

DR1 is the best in the franchise.

and it's sad that CV has taken Dead Rising in the "comedy" direction. DR1's story was never intended to be comedic in any way. The only thing that made the game funny was the ridiculous oufits you could wear during cutscenes.
Dead Rising might have a serious tone, but it has always been funny too. Just look at the psycho bosses, they're alll ridiculous and parodies of some other characters we may have seen in various media(films, tv etc.).

Not to mention the dialogue of some of the survivors, which is pretty funny. Also, the fact that you can kill zombies in silly ways also makes this game far from serious. The costumes you have already mentioned, but the fact that you can dress in a totally inappropriate way should also indicate to you that the game wasn't taking itself too seriously.

The sequels pretty much follow the example of the original, but there are now more ways to kill zombies, which is only to be expected with improved programming tools available to the developers.

It is the best Dead Rising but gameplay wise, it's probably the worst lol. Sometimes it almost feels like I'm playing an open beta. Dead Rising 2 had an improved engine. Dead Rising 3 had an even better engine, except for the part where you couldn't close doors or highlight shop names on the map. Mixed bag really. But the first one is definitely the best, story wise at least.

i only played 1 and 2. that's the truth right there. I powered through with the small chainsaw in 1.

The combo weapons in 2 lessen the difficulty cliff (DR1 was only a bit tough until you got OP weapons). The psychopath fights in 2 are a hundred times better and sometimes annoying. But it was more engaging than the ones in 1. 2 squeezed a lot of mileage from a limited engine.

1 does have the better setting/story, but I enjoyed both a lot - both games are the only ones (besides the Metal Gear series) where I don't bother skipping the cutscenes. They add value to the game. All other AAA games I just skip.

How's 3? I didn't get over the linear first part.

DR1 > OTR > DR2 > DR2's Case 0 + West > DR3 > DR4

This guy knows what's up.

That seems to be the opinion of most people. Capcom Vancouver is just unable to grasp what made Dead Rising 1 so lovable. And from the looks of things, Dead Rising 4 seems to be as far away from a Dead Rising game as possible.

For a zombie apocalypse, the game is too serious. That's why I enjoy more the DR2, is more funnier than the first one. Both games as a pair are awesome. The third one has a lot of issues with the port, running at 30 fps and a lot of textures-lightning problems. Is good one, but I do not like it as much as the first two

DR1 was better for a lot of reasons. The story, while still not great by any means, had more "dignity" than the other games. It -could- be taken seriously, which is why dressing up in ridiculous outfits for cutscenes was all the more amusing.

The gameplay is better too. It's just far more suspenseful and intense. The higher difficulty means it's more satisfying. The sequels feel a little hollow by comparison when you beat them.

The addition of co-op however made DR2 / OTR and DR3 some of the most fun buddy co-op games I've ever played though. So there is that.

What I liked the most from DR2 was the creativity in weapon combos. DR3 abused of that system.
But when you watch a dramatic scene with Frank using a dress with heels, you forget the other games.

Agreed

DR1 FTW

Ah the nostalgia.

DR2 for me.

1 is better in terms of: atmosphere, toungue and cheek humor, the layout and deisgn of the mall, the pyschopaths, and end game bonsues.

it however lacks: compitent and fair ai for both survior and pyschopaths....and thats really about it. graphics could count, but if ya do that and look at dead rising 2 in 10 more years it will be garbage compared to dead rising 5. the AI's all that really hampers it, everything else is a solid design and incredibly fun to explore.

It's just my opinion, but I actually think Dead Rising 1 looks better than 2 in some spots
