I agree. I recently played OTR and disliked how stiffly Frank moves in that game.
Not to mention the dialogue of some of the survivors, which is pretty funny. Also, the fact that you can kill zombies in silly ways also makes this game far from serious. The costumes you have already mentioned, but the fact that you can dress in a totally inappropriate way should also indicate to you that the game wasn't taking itself too seriously.
The sequels pretty much follow the example of the original, but there are now more ways to kill zombies, which is only to be expected with improved programming tools available to the developers.
i only played 1 and 2. that's the truth right there. I powered through with the small chainsaw in 1.
The combo weapons in 2 lessen the difficulty cliff (DR1 was only a bit tough until you got OP weapons). The psychopath fights in 2 are a hundred times better and sometimes annoying. But it was more engaging than the ones in 1. 2 squeezed a lot of mileage from a limited engine.
1 does have the better setting/story, but I enjoyed both a lot - both games are the only ones (besides the Metal Gear series) where I don't bother skipping the cutscenes. They add value to the game. All other AAA games I just skip.
How's 3? I didn't get over the linear first part.
This guy knows what's up.
Never as good as the first time...
The gameplay is better too. It's just far more suspenseful and intense. The higher difficulty means it's more satisfying. The sequels feel a little hollow by comparison when you beat them.
The addition of co-op however made DR2 / OTR and DR3 some of the most fun buddy co-op games I've ever played though. So there is that.
But when you watch a dramatic scene with Frank using a dress with heels, you forget the other games.
DR1 FTW
DR2 for me.
it however lacks: compitent and fair ai for both survior and pyschopaths....and thats really about it. graphics could count, but if ya do that and look at dead rising 2 in 10 more years it will be garbage compared to dead rising 5. the AI's all that really hampers it, everything else is a solid design and incredibly fun to explore.
It's just my opinion, but I actually think Dead Rising 1 looks better than 2 in some spots
