Dead Rising

Dead Rising

Statistiche:
Any Dead Rising 1 vets have any advice for playing this game?
I've only played a few hours of this on the Xbox 360 and liked it enough to buy it on Steam - however I feel like I don't really have a handle on how to get the most out of the game. So if anyone who's played this before would share some advice or tips it would be much appreciated.

thanks!

Get the lemon juice. You'll need it.
Also play blind the first time and do whatever you want. There's New Game+++++++ anyway.
God knows you need NG+ to get the Mega Man suit.
Does the timer stopping bug still work in the intro? Where you stand in the enterence way will a set time (I can't remember exactly because it's been like 10 years). I remember that was fun, then you could just explore and not care about the main mission.
Go straight for the parking garage and mow down zombies. With the lack of loading screens now on PC this should take an hour to hit 50. When you get the mounted machine gun don't aim it. Just shoot it repeatedly pressing the fire button, it auto aims for the head among all guns. Make sure to kill the clown psycho and pick up some magazines, the mini chainsaws utterly break the game.
For your first playthrough I would suggest doing the main story up until you start to have trouble. For most newbies this will be the Medicine Run on Day 2 which has an incredibly strict time limit unless you opened up a shortcut the night before.

Other tips

-Everyone already mentioned taking out Adam for his chainsaws but you also unlock a shortcut that takes you back to Paradise plaza. When escorting survivors from faraway this is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ must and helps you manage your time better.

-Don't give your survivors melee weapons, hand them a shotgun and make sure to take it back before reaching the security room or you lose the gun.

-Set markers for the Survivors at safe zones and move up just a little bit on your own to clear the zombies out. Do not go too far or they will respawn and undo your work. Then call the survivors to you and repeat until you make it out of the zone.

-Bosses tend to have a easy to learn pattern and do not have any invincibility frames.

-Try and save survivors if you can. If you go ahead and abandon the story when it gets too hard then you won't have trouble. Survivors give out tons of experience, more than enough to level up at least once from rescuing just one survivor early game.

-Take pictures!

-The colors on the missions indicate how much longer you have left. Blue means at least six or more hours (1 hour in real time usually), yellow means you have less than six hours (Half an hour in real time), and red means you have 3 hours (15 minutes in real time). Don't get too worried about seeing a mission in the red. Unless you're on the other side of the map there's no need to rush and ♥♥♥♥ yourself over. If you see the red start shrinking past the mission title, start worrying because you have five minutes or less.

-A lot of story missions and some side missions do not start until the timer on the mission hits zero. For some story missions it doesn not mean you failed if you aren't there on the dot, you have a very small grace period to get there. Usually about 2 minutes of real time.

-Most skills are entirely random as to when you'll get them. I once got the first speed boost at level 22, this time I got it at level 11.

-If you want a base line as to what would be a good level to re-try the story mission, I would aim for the 20s or so. If you do side missions as you do the main quest, you could easily reach the end game at about level 40. You should at least have the first speed boost unlocked and maybe your attack leveled up a few times.

-The reason I say aim for level 40 or so for the end game is because new enemies show up during the last stretch of story mode. You will get your ♥♥♥♥ wrecked if you aren't leveled up by that point. Do not pull a Game Grumps and attempt it at level 12, you will get ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Colombian Roastmasters on the second floor of Paradise Plaza has an infinite supply of orange juice behind the counter. Early on these are one of the best healing items you can get, and as you're constantly running past this place to go to and from the saferoom, be sure to stock up, and as you gain more inventory space, save a few slots for the OJ.
Yes I have one : put aside all missions and level up for your second playthrough, you will need the MegaBuster
There was some way to get massive XP by playing the intro over and over. I think it was taking pictures of the initial zombie horde then reloading? And yeah, the previously mentioned tunnel thing too.
Messaggio originale di Grayfox176:
I can't remember the name of the last one, but there are actually three magazines you can get that all apply to the smaller chainsaw, and I think each multiplier stacks independantly of the others, which, if I remember correctly, makes one of those chainsaws last 27 times longer than normal. Using them, one can reasonably last you an entire playthrough. You might need a second one if you're really liberal with dishing out toy chainsaw death.
Yeah, the magazines stack so it's 3*3*3, 27 times more durability!
Messaggio originale di Nevander:
Not so much that they get lost but they just get stuck on literally anything, and sit in one place and play tug of war with a zombie until you go over and get them off.

I usually prefer to use a combination of waypoints and the follow command. Waypoint to a clear-ish area ahead, guide them through carefully. When it's clear, use the follow command.

In fact, once I get my hands on the small chainsaws I can usually clear a path as I'm moving through an area and the group follows right behind me.
This looks fantastic! I haven't played in many years so I'm going to go more or less blind. But I will definitelyh check it out in more detail in the future.

Also, I made a super simple guide that may help some of you too:

First few times you die just restart, easy levels.
Also I'm glad to see so many people telling you to just enjoy the game and not care too much about a perfect run yet. I agree 100%

And at any moment you can restart the game but keep you XP and level. If I'm not wrong, I did it years ago when I got stuck.
First playthrough, ignore all story and just explore , level and have fun, then 2nd run do thw Storyline which will be much easier and even get overtime with best ending = profit
When you encounter a certain someone with a sniper rifle again, don't rush in with melee or you'll get stunlocked and lose 3-4 bars of life easily. He'll pick you off if you stay out longer than a few seconds, especially at a low level, but there's a way to easily beat him. Stand behind one of the columns upstairs so that he can't get a hit on you, then make a run for the store on the right hand side with sports equipment. Or just make sure you've prepared a bunch of guns/projectiles and food.

Grab a hockey stick, then run back to the column. Aim, and you'll notice your view is a bit to the right of the column. You can line up a hockey shot and wreck that sniper scrub with the power of 30 putts to the groin, all without getting your head blown off.
Dont have time to read other replies so I'm sorry if I'm repeating stuff already said.

You're kind of supposed to fail your first few playthroughs as your Frank will be pretty weak and have little moves to begin with. Its a game that is designed to be played through multiple times by design and this is why its pretty short. Its the kind of game where you find the location for a sweet weapon or magazine (they act like buffs) and remembering this location will make your next play just a bit easier. Once you learn where some of the best stuff is the game becomes very manageable, part fo the fun is learning locations and general gameplay mechanics like how to easily defeat each 'boss'.
As the first guy said, you should first try to level up. In the 72 hours Frank spends in the mall, there is so much stuff to do you really can't do it all in one playthrough.

So what I suggest is, first get familiar with it. Do a few main missions, side missions, escort survivors and get familiar with the game mechanics.

When your character is stronger, you should start dedicating playthroughs to, obviously get the true ending, and also to get some of the harder achievements, like saving all survivors or killing the 53,594 zombies. There are guides for all this out there as well.

If you try doing everything at once in early playthroughs, it can be very stressful because you'll be running from objective to objective against time. You don't have to do that, you can play every playthrough prioritizing different things (like main or side missions, or just exploring the map, and messing around)

And remember to take pictures! You get a lot of PP from good pictures, and you can find more film in camera stores.

The harder achievements unlock new weapons and clothing, which will be available in the Security Room. If you want to know what they are, you can look it up, or you can hunt for the achievements and be surprised.

There's also some stuff in this game that is "hidden" like certain survivors, special cutscenes, special items and so on. Once you get familiar with the game and learn your way around the map and mechanics, the objectives become easy and fun to complete. This game is a bit harder than the later games, but I personally like that. Especially some of the boss fights, if you go into them without proper weapons or you don't know the strategy for them. You'll know when it happens.

Good luck and have fun.
