Infinity Mode Achievements!
I am planning on getting all the achievements for this game. I'm pretty far into them. I didn't ever beat this game when I had it on Xbox but I finally have beat this beast 10 years later and unlocked infinity mode. The issue is, the two achievements require me to survive 5 days (or 10 hours) and 7 days (or 14 hours). This would be all fine and dandy in my xbox days where I could just keep it on until the next play session and I didn't have anywhere to be all the time but leaving my PC on for 10-14 hours and just keeping it running in the background seems risky because I've never kept a game open that long. I wish I could save but of course part of the challenge is dedicating to the game. I'm 1 day in (two hours) and if i were to die or mess up further in, I would go beserk. So anyone know of a good way to handle this?

Yea, you can pause the game and then just put your computer to sleep instead of shutting it down, then wake it up and unpause the game, that's what I did.

I leave my PC running 24/7 with no issues. BE SURE you disable Windows' automatic updates. God how I would have loved to have that option on the 360 back then, but then again, it kicked you offline whenever there was an update, so your progress was lost completely. As the guy who wrote the 5 and 7 Day Survival Guides, and the 17 Days 7 Hours 7 Minutes Survival Guide, you can imagine how frustrating that was.

And it's not like the system patches altered the way the game communicated with the leaderboards, it was just M$ throwing out security band-aids because some doosh was hacking his console.

You have to be present for this. Your health decreases over time, so you have to keep healing. This isnt a set it and forget it achievement. So, plan a day for it, and get ready to sit and play this for 14 hours straight.

And try it out before hand to get a feel for it, and plan accordingly. Im sure there are good guides somewhere that show food locations and tips.

You can pause the game and put your computer to sleep, you do not have to play it 14 hours straight.

Yeah but they sound concerned about just leaving their computer running, and maybe I am wrong but it seems they think they can just leave the game going and they will get the achievement.

I will say that I've left games paused and running on my PC, just turn off the TV when I'm sleeping to prevent screen burn, and when I returned the game had crashed. Or rather, Windows found some reason to crash my game, so it is possible.

I never understood the "no saving in Infinite Mode" thing, really. The goal is to keep your video game character alive, not your machine. Sitting in a chair holding a plastic controller and mashing buttons does not make me feel like I'm the video game character running around a dark mall full of zombies looking for food, so "immersion" does not even enter into the discussion.
