Worried about a time limit? No need.
This has been said time and time again but its simply the best advice you can get about time limit in Dead Rising 1 and 2.

When you fail main case just keep playing. Kill psychopaths, rescue survivors, search every nook and cranny of the map, experiment with game mechanics, level up a lot in proces. Just do everything you wanted to do but could not because there is a time limit.
You will get an ending. Not best ending but it IS one of the endings that you can only get by doing this anyway.

Keep story itself for second playtrugh. Which will be SO MUCH easier because
1) You can focus 100% on main story and stuff you haven't done first time around .
2) Your levels carry over! So you will have more space, health, do more damage, carry more items, faster movement speed...not to say with all wrestling skills you get you can take on zombies even if you find yourself without any weapon. Frank is pure badass.

I rage quitted this game back on X360 because of the time limit. Had a blast playing it now on PC with this simple advice in mind. Same thing goes for Dead Rising 2 as well. Playing it for a first time now, failed the case. Not even mad. Place is frigin huge! So much stuff to do outside main case...

Time Limit is only an issue if you are forcing yourself to finish game only once.

I only rarely play games more then once as well but these 2 playtroughs of the game are completely different. Together they felt like complete game.

So yeah if you not sure about time limit remember its only problem if you let it to be a problem. If you trully just wanna have fun killing zombies in mall YOU CAN! Its not time limit stoping you. Its YOU!

When I failed the main case it always demanded I go back to load or the main menu...
Was all like 'The truth fades into shadows...' and forced a restart... Am I missing something?

So I looked it up to see exactly what options it gives you after main case expires.

"Load Game"
"Return To Game"
"Save Status and Quit"

You wanna pick just return to game.

I say its that "Truth vanished" in big red letters that makes it look like complete game over screen.

The main problem is you have people who think they have to play every game only once and do everything in it that one time, and get every Achievement in that one playthrough. They don't enjoy games, they simply want to finish them, like it's a chore or actual work.

These are the people who could not play an Elder Scrolls title because you never see a credit roll and ending cinematic.

min/max the shizz out of it. get all the survivors, psychos AND do all the cases!

lol, in all seriousness, back in 06 when I first played I failed the 3rd or 4th case and just kept going. I learned the map, fought bosses, effed around for hours, and just had fun. Figured out where weapons and books are, which bosses dropped what and appeared when, which survivors showed up where.

By my 6th or 7th playthrough I could min/max the game super hard.

When I first played this game a long time ago on Xbox 360, I got pretty mad at how hard it was and how I kept failing. I couldn't get past getting meds for Brad because of Steven. Eventually I learned how the game works and eventually handled him with no problems and continued to get a LOT better at the game since I knew I needed practice and to just play it.

I gave up the first time on console due to this (and not having a HD screen), will follow your advice this play through, thanks.
