"Updating executable"

Every time I try to launch the game it says Updating Executable, then it just stops and shows the play button again.

I have tried to verify game cache, tried to run as admin, tried to restart steam and my computer multiple times. Uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I cannot seem to make it work, I have many threads and still can't find a solution. If someone knows how to fix this issue, please let me know. Thanks.

Try to reinstall the game engine in the redist folder it should say something like vc. That’s what I did and it worked for me. My issue is that my game is stuck on downloading game settings

Me to stays stuck at the download game setting for Black Ops 1 multiplayer and its buffering forever with no end in sight?

Same thing happened to me, the way it randomly fixed for me was to download the black ops 1 (not multiplayer) then i tried launching that one too, nothing happened, tried to launch multiplayer, nothing happened, i clicked a few times randomly trying to launch till after 10 seconds i got asked with the windows pop up where it asks for permissions, then clicked yes and since then it worked. Same thing happened to a friend, super random bug that makes no sense. Good luck people gotta do some bodoo magic ♥♥♥♥ to play the game ahahha

EDIT: Turned "compatibility mode" on to "Windows 8" on the BlackOpsMP.exe and it works.

Well now it just randomly began working again this problem makes no sense and i hope it gets fixed and the game does not end up abandoned left to rot in a broken state.

ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE, I went into my antivirus software in the containment section and found a COD file being held in containment. Let it have full access and bam working.
Same issue here. Started yesterday but then go in. Now it keeps saying updating EXE. Then goes back to Play. Makes no sense. any answers?

same problem , reinstalled game and tried everything mentioned above and nothing works. Clicking the executable in game folder doesn't even start the launching process , launching from desktop icon or directly thru steam ends with "Updating Executable" :/

Yea it really seems like you cant do much other then keep trying to start it and hope that it works at some point.

Was wondering if this was Steam Deck specific but looks like its just borked. ):

Got it working on deck with command argument dx11 / —use-d3d11 (i dont think bo1 supports dx11 but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ triggered the support file installs).

I think the problem is the contents of the ReDist folder not being installed.

Try to manually launch each executable in the redist folder.

Copy / paste this command "dx11 / —use-d3d11" in the launch option fixed it for me.

Also, when you'll be in-game, type "/com_maxfps 0" in the command by pressing "²"
