HELP - Black Ops 1 Campaign Reset

Bought the game to relive my childhood and decided to play the campaign (the main reason I bought the game). I didn't like the low FOV and weird FPS, so I went on youtube for help. Found a way to edit the config file to make the FOV 90, as well as to make the FPS unlocked, but also making the file read-only in the process.

Played the campaign for an hour, and then got off for the night. Decided to boot it up today, only to find my campaign was completely reset. Tried looking online for help, but couldn't find much solutions. I have the save files in my folder, but yet I can't find a way to continue playing those saved games. So I decided to remove the config edits I made, and also turn off read-only, as I figured that might be the issue. But even after doing that, I still can't find a way to continue where I left off. Found some old steam discussion saying to edit the config line that says seta sv_lastSaveCommitedToDevice and also seta sv_lastSaveGame. Tried that and still didn't work. Reinstalled the game as well, still didn't work.

Is there any way I can continue where I left off? Also is it possible to have my FOV to 90 but also make sure my campaign is saved and doesn't reset? I'm surprised there's not much info on this online...
