Is it safe to play?

Read old threads about old Cod, not being safe to play via Steam due to the risk of getting hacked etc. But what does it look like today, in 2024? Something new or how should you go about playing bo1 relatively safe? Thanks

Public MM is unsafe for BO1 to AW. Any player-hosted connections, listen server usually, can expose you to a bad actor in that specific match.
Don't play public ZM or custom MP with randoms. Only play solo or with friends you know won't mess with you.
I'd recommend Plut, but really, I don't. Plut is a bad client with lazy developers who'd rather sit there doing nothing while they let the client rot. Hope one day the clients get leaked and people will be able to properly improve them, by adding QoL like disabling the ugly watermark and letting you save your server filters.
Plut isn't worth your time and so isn't normal, pozzed BO1 MP.
Keep in mind public MP MM on PC BO1 is dedicated server-only, so you should be safe there, in theory. But I still wouldn't bother. Most servers are terrible. And again, if you play customs in MP, with random people who added you, you're open to be attacked.

I'm playing on Plutonium, it's fun with a mix of actual players and bots.

Yesterday, I had a good 4 player round of zombies on Kino der Toten. Got the raygun and zeus cannon, so zombies ragdolling all over the place. We got to round 30 before someone had to leave. It's still as good as I remember it from the Xbox 360 days

BO1 MP is safe due to servers

BO1 Zombies Public matches use P2P, so those arent safe

BO1 Zombies Solo is safe

As long as you play with only friends in private zombie lobbies it's fine. It's when you queue for a public match, and you end up with a bad actor is when this can be a problem.
