MW3 Multiplayer Newbie Question
I only just started playing multiplayer mode for the first time and in the "Everyone for themselves" mode I play with 5 players for about 7 mins. Most of them seem to have pretty high ranking and XP.

But is it really possible during that time for anyone to kill as man as 30+ kills. Or was that cheating somehow. I could be shooting them a lot and they just need a few shots and I am dead. Am I really that bad as a beginner playing against them?

I am a good singleplayer in most games like this for 2 decades so I am not a total newbie but I just felt that in a space of just 7 mins you can kill as many as 30+ times when everyone is running about shooting each other. Note that the rest are also like doing 15 to 20+ kills themselves except me who only managed to get about 2-4 kills during that time.

Any veterans got some input to my comments if I am right or off my rationale.

Thanks

Its never a good idea to play FFA when you are Newb in MW3 :) Play TDM to improve your skill first. Also helpful is to play Singleplayer on veteran or start to play on dedicated server.
30+kills in 7 min is rare, but possible. Its always hard to tell if someone hacks or not. There might be some idiots who use godmode triggerbot etc, but there are also some "legit" hacker. You will never know for sure if somebody hacks or not :)

Hi,

Thanks for the comments. Well there were always in the 30+ kill region for 7 games straight. That is 7 game straight of "rare" then heheh... But thanks.. maybe I will try to play TDM but that would still be with strangers since I don;t play multi-player till now just for the heck of it after so many years or never taking that route. I buy a game to play the story line and sometime replay at higher level as you put it like hardcore mode..etc.

And then I play the same game again on trainer mode just for the heck of it. But I believe if you are going to play on a multi-player environment one should be fair and play honestly.

if it was one person then it wont be so rare if that guy was good. i believe FFA you end with a kill count of 30. so not sure how they are getting 30+ in FFA. other gametypes sure like TDM were the end kill count is higher.

i have played many fast matches and be up in the low to mid 20's and the person who wins gets there 30 and the match was around the 7 min mark.

it would also depend on who was in the server. if you get someone who are much better at the game playing against those who are not all that good (at least compared to the one player) and the map on top of it then yeah it can be fast matches and dominating as well.

without video proof it is impossible to even begin to tell rather it was cheats or not. many factors especially in FFA and TDM that come into play. for starters the mini map is always on just does not show positions. however if you shoot a non silenced weapon, you will then show up on the mini map. if uav gets called in and you do not use assassin you will then show up. which if you are not aware of these things, not only are you showing up on a radar making it easy, but from your end, the person looks like they are using a wallhack or something.

Well for example they were all in the 80 level with just me at 6 hehehhe... but it is not like they all gang up on me so they are killing each other a whole lot and it gets pretty high with 10-15 kill minimum and most in the 25 or 33 mark each time

I am new to just.. I was just curious as to how they can react to fast and shoot and run about. If this is honed skill then wow... or are all of them that good? I was comparing it a little to what I see on youtube of tips and gameplay but they seem a little slower heh. In mine everyone was like sprinting and shooting on the go instead of like normal run speed and shooting. Well I will move on and see how it goes and how I will progress. It is interesting for sure.
cad80_99 May 25, 2015 @ 10:10am
nah its probably just you. i just played a few ffa matches and most players were all in the 20s. if it was FFA and they were above 30 then for sure they are cheating. the match kill limit for FFA is 30. or just some exageration on your part.

but as i said most matches even i cen get up in the 20s but lose to the guy who gets 30 first. having 30 kills is achievable as i said, that is the game kill cap for FFA.

another factor is deaths. most of them probably had just as many deaths. and maps can play a role as well. there are a few that are much closer range type maps and then a few that are a bit larger.

Hello upshoot8888.
It's very possible for an experienced and skilled player to get 30+ kills in 7 minutes or less.
It may be harder in Free-For-All mode, but it's definitely very possible in Team Deathmatch or Kill Confirmed. The FFA standard kill limit is 30, so going higher than that is impossible in a normal lobby. However in TDM or KC, me and my teammates (Team HF - Join us here ) frequently get 30-0 or even 40-0 games and we even had 50-x or 60-x games. Many times I've reached 30 kills when my team's score was around 4000 in TDM (almost half-way in the game) by using assault killstreaks very successfully. This however requires a great deal of personal skill as well as a lot of teamwork. As for Free-For-All, I have had many sessions where I completely dominated the game or some others where I just left after a minute because someone cheated. If you find yourself losing because of a cheater, there is no point to stay unless you have an experienced team that can take him down.

Cheats, Classes, Gamestyle etc
Most people in Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer today cheat. It SUCKS but it's a fact. I'm not just talking about obvious cheats like lobby hacking, aimbot, wallhacks etc. There is a great deal of "invisible" cheats that make it harder to detect when someone cheats during the game (UAV hacks, ammo hacks, health hacks etc). These cheats are also undetectable and they don't get banned. I've had a lot of frustrating games where you play as hard as you possibly can, giving everything you have against someone who cheats and still lose. A lot of people in Free For All cheat and the antidote to cheats is teamwork, so I prefer Team Deathmatch, especially if you're new to this game. Although teamwork is not really a thing in COD games, you can join a team (such as us) play with them and learn from them. I'm confident we have the best teamwork among PC players in this game and it helps a lot with our gameplay. Some consider it camping, but it's really just patrolling and securing an area that gives you a safe spawn and a tactical advantage (it's common sense, but everyone still thinks we camp- we don't stay in the same place). It also helps in covering each other's backs from cheaters and getting assault killstreaks, which is why it's so successful.

If you'd like Class Setups and tips on how to play the game read my guide here .

Moving from Singleplayer to Multiplayer
If I were you I would start preferring TDM as I learn the game since having teammates helps you even a bit most times. (you can know where enemies spawn etc). As you become better you could play Kill Confirmed or some other game type for more kills. I would save Free For All for when you are more experienced since that type requires far more personal skill than the others. It's very natural to feel really bad at first. Multiplayer COD is not hard to learn but takes a long time to really master it (I've been playing COD since 2008). Things change when you move from Singleplayer to Multiplayer as there is people involved (people are generally smarter than computers - surprise huh?) There is also lag involved (communication speed between networks) which may affect your performance a lot. If you don't have a good connection then you are going to suffer from it in game.

As an experienced (1500hrs+) COD MW3 player I had A LOT of frustrating games. Most players in this game cheat by now and it's not obvious unless you're experienced. Some days I even stop playing after 2-3 games because it's so frustrating. However I always come back since I love the game and enjoy playing with my teammates. Gaming is about fun and interacting with people, so I don't really pay a lot of attention to the game itself when bad things happen. I have a Kill-Death ratio of 2.43, which is a lot higher than most people who play the game (most people I see around fail to reach 1). All of my teammates have a K-D of 2+, so it would be a great source of knowledge if you interacted with us using the given link above (HF RTC).

Sorry for the long post, but I like to answer questions extensively.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, which are completely reasonable and I hope our tips are helpful.
Take care,
Team HF (HF-November)

Thanks for the insights folks. Appreciated. Just scouting the multi-player landscape here as a newbie. I thought I ws pretty sure I saw beyond 30+ score. hmmm,, but for sure I saw 30 many a times.

hf-november: Thanks for the indepth commentary. It does give me more info and points me the way further into the gaming world of multi-player. Though I have to say, it is still not my "thing' as per say or maybe I am just older dude who have more fun with single player/storyline driven game then just combating with people over a set of set maps. It is fun though in some way but hard to keep play for hours on end. So far I am into my 3rd day and doing like 4 hours. heheh,

Damn I might just check out your link and also watch how you play.

Long hand writing is fine as I am like that too when I am giving advice on my other interests :)

We all can't be good at everything heh.

On TDM I did a little better though. heheh and not always at the bottom last position to the other and some around my level and the best that I play with are doing like 10 to 20+ kills.

Not sure it is the lag. I do have a i7 rig with a pretty sweet graphic card for my single player.

But I will soldier on and play on. Cheers. See you boys on the net.

whoever ends up with host on ffa will be hard to kill. especially if it is a good player. if i get host in ffa i win almost every match depending on the skill of the other players. if you are not very skilled at this game and you dont have host you will likely die quickly and frequently. ffa is all about stealth and precision aim. knowing where to look for enemies to come from and being prepared for them. there are no team mates to confuse you. the only sounds you hear are the enemy. a good headset will help. camping will get you killed you gotta move around a small area and know where the enemy is coming from.

No problem upshoot8888,

I often found it helpful to watch how others do something when I'm a beginner. I have a Youtube Channel with 700+ videos of MW3. Check them out if you'd like. You may find it helpful to see how we play and what kinds of weapon combinations we use. If you'd like to learn about the weapons I suggest you search "Drift0r Modern Warfare 3 In-Depth" on Youtube which covers statistics on the game's equipment extensively. I hope these sources help in improving your game.

Bear in mind that lag is not machine related but connection related. It doesn't matter if you have an i7 or a very powerful graphics card. If you have a powerful PC but a crappy connection you will likely suffer from it a lot in multiplayer gaming. Usually people who invest in buying powerful PC already have good connections, but this also depends on where you live. I would consider a good-enough connection to be around or over 1000kbps.

Thanks HF- November,

I already saw some of them this afternoon ;) I think there is no lag on my end with a connection of 18,950kbps. Framerate is about 91 fps

Appreciate the help. Will dig in and keep playing when I can to hone the skills and also to play smarter by learning the environment of each map. I think that helps a lot over my crappy slow reflex fingers on a old man heh. Was level 13 yesterday and now at Level 22. So I guess that should amount to a little improvement thus far.

you definitely want to loosen up the fingers and work on reflexes this game is a fast twitch shooter. always aim for the chest and head takes less shots to kill. i find when im having a bad game i am usually shooting low and missing because of it. im older as well although im still pretty fast and accurate. not as much as id like to be but yeah. i have a few moab vids as well. no commentary just game play. be sure you do not use any 3rd party software it will get you banned. mw3sa is a good tool to get and its allowed. good for kickin hackers if you have host.

Sorry to point this out, but this is incorrect.

Only 3rd party tool that is confirmed as acceptable to be used is the mapmod FoV changer. MW3SA does not have that same status. As far as I understand only thing going for it is that it interacts with network traffic rather than the game itself, making it less likely that VAC will be able to pick it up.

In my books, MW3SA belongs in the same category as lag hacks and blatant aimbots - the end result is the same -> you are no longer in that lobby. In a privately owned server, kick tools are fine - in a peer to peer system where you cannot choose which idiot's lobby you end up in, getting kicked 3 kills from a MOAB is not.
