Programs to hack IP?
So, I just finished a match I was playing. It was just to pass some time, also I already saw we were losing by a lot, so I was just running around and killing everyone (by that I mean, I wasn't going for the drop zones to win...). The thing is it was a lot easier than it used to be (like yesterday...) and one player from the enemy side at the bottom of the rank started calling me "cheater". Of course, I ignored him. It's normal in games for people to call the players at the top of the board "hackers". No hard feelings. But the problem was that, after a few minutes, he started writing my real location (country and city) every few seconds and then my Internet provider (the company I use to have internet or whatever it is called...) and he kept writing that till the end of the game. Of course, I didn't panic. I mean, c'mon, he can't do anything with just that. Staying calm is the key to these situations. Plus he was at the bottom of the board and I realised he was just trying to assault me, since he sucked so much and couldn't find a way to kill me (seriously, just grab a shotgun...). But the fact that he tracked my IP confused me.

What I'm trying to say is what is the point of playing a game, if it's risky? It's supposed to be for fun and all I see lately is negativity (hackers everywhere, people flamming). I know that Activision/Infinity (or whoever is in charge of the support) doesn't care about their player's safety, but if my IP can be tracked so easily, I won't bother playing this or any of its other games. I certainly won't bother risking my PC's and personal information's protection, even if it's minor problems. Who knows what's gonna be next time? My actual IP address? Well, that would be a lot worse...

I never post things like this on the internet, but I felt like people need to know about this new (at least for me) kind of hacking, before they go and play again.

Well, bad news for you:
when ever you go online THEY all "track your IP".
Any website, any client based app, you use WiFi? This router you connected to has your (internal) IP too and sends out the router IP to any online service you visit.
CoD games are P2P games, so your IP is sent in any way.

By the way when you use FB, WhatsApp & Co. you dont need to worry about your personal information or protection of data privacy - you lost this fight already.
WhatsApp has your cell phone number already with your name, even you never ever posted it online. So have your steam profile set on complete private might gives you a "secret" feeling but that is all it is... just a feeling.

All you can get with an IP address is the location / city of the ISP (and the ISPs name).

They can't actually track you down with it, only your ISP would have that info (and they won't release it without a warrant from law enforcement).

Did you hear a dial tone before this happened?

I don't remember hearing anything different to the game's sound.

I know that my IP is tracked whenever I use the internet (I use Ethernet), but I, myself, can't track anyone's IP. The fact that a mere player can track my IP so easily is what's concerning. He's not supposed to have that power, yet he did it within seconds. I prefer when I play a game, my personal info doesn't get shown in the public, even if they can't do anything with them.

What do you mean by tracked? You can't get the address of an IP without access to the ISP database. (In some rare cases the address might be in whois)

All sensitive customer info would be encrypted (and many western countries have laws / legislation in place to enforce things like this). So even if you did get in their database, I doubt they would have customer info in plain text.

Well, doxes are usually compiled with stolen info.

SEing is another method, but I know ISPs in the UK won't reveal any information without a certain passphrase said from the customer's end first, even then they are wary about reading out information that is already on there, they normally ask you to recite it first (or calling from a landline that your ISP also supplies you with for example works too).

I know almost nothing about these stuff, so I assumed that finding my IP was the only way to track my location (and the ISP)

You can use MW3sa to see all players IP.

Unless they use VPN to mask their IPs.
Also you dont need this tool to see other players IP. You can see the IPs of connected clients in your (advanced) router menu too.

Well hide/mask your IP won't save you from VAC since Steam/VAC uses Steam acc ID and won't care much about IPs and/or player names etc.

Which increases your latency so most people won't do it.

True.
Unless you use the paid versions of VNC sw but most likely there are not many players in MW3 going to pay for fast VPN connections. But either way the IP has no relevance for VAC and/or players beside it shows the "true" country you are from. Many caught cheats state in their steam profile they are from Korea or RUS but their IP says different.
