MW3 Installation Problems
Hello Steam,

About 21 hours ago, I bought the retail disc of MW3. I activated the product to my account, as everyone does. I launched the installer, and gone through the setup process. As it prepares the multiplayer files, it gives me a dialog box saying:
"An error occured while installing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Multiplayer (update suspended)". Now for the average user it wouldn't be such a big deal but for me it is because of the download size and my connection. I really don't want to have to download 14 GB of a game on a 5mbps connection. It would take me up to 6 hours to download such file and for me it's not worth the wait considering it being disc-based installation. Continuing on, the campaign installs but Steam won't let me play because the multiplayer part of the game is missing.

Anyway I hope that you guys understand what I'm going through and can help me.

Uninstall: Singleplayer + Multiplayer and then try and reinstall from disc. If you have to redownload it all then just leave it do overnight.

Still does not answer why the thing will not install properly. I also have the same issue. My connection rate is even smaller than the OP 1Mbps....

Sometimes discs fail. Download overnight.

I have same problem here too. Retail disc installer just literally does not install the game. After it is "finished" Steam goes to download entire game again.

Disc installs will fail as there have been so many patches since the game's release.

Ok then I get what did you mean as we can see there is no other way to install the game...

NO Way around the soulution is to Download the files i went to lauch the game its forcing me to install Multiplayer its all part of there way of controling who has it and every aspect of it just forced to wait the download out til there both done, about 1 to 2 days if you let it go but if you do it in chunks your looking at 2-4 days depending on how you do it ether way your stuck waiting steam is slower than it was years ago there servers are not the best nether you can have a supper fast connection but lag time though steam server is outragous and tired.
I have an idea, download it overnight.

Hi! you can install your game from the disc. I found this workaround fix and made a guide here.
