Is it just me, or does this game look worse than modern warfare 2 from 2009 in graphics. I have maxed out everything on both. MW2 looks better and less pixelated.

Did you set "Extra" or "Native" graphics settings? It should be "Native" to look the best.

somehow for me it also looks awful, i have 1920x1080 and extra / high graphics and doesnt look sharp

In Modern Warfare 3's graphics menu you will find the "Image Quality" switch, which offers four levels - the highest, as already mentioned, is "Extra". Unfortunately, this is not the best choice graphically, on the contrary: the shooter upscales from a low resolution to the one set in the graphics menu. According to our measurements, the starting point for "Extra" is between 800 x 600 and 1,024 x 768, presumably 1,024 x 600 pixels (this is the console resolution of Modern Warfare 3).

Extrapolating from this very low resolution to, for example, Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) is very muddy and pixelated - so be sure to use the "Native" option. As our image comparison shows, the graphics improve drastically with “Native” instead of “Extra”. With supersampling AA, Modern Warfare 3 gains additional quality without becoming blurry. This does not pose any problems for current graphics cards.
