Singularity

Singularity

Games like this?
I just finished replaying this game again, and I really wish I could find more like it. The post apoc. dark atmosphere.. nice player abilities to choose from.. war/post war setting.

I replay this off and on since it's been out (I own the disc) and I'd like to know if anyone knows of a similar game I might've missed (and don't say bioshock- it doesn't scratch the same itch for me). I have a few gems I replay for years because most are unique in the way they appeal to me.

I have yet to finish Singularity but I really enjoy Wolfenstein 2009 by the same developer. In my opinion its much better than the newer Wolfenstein New Order. Its just a solid first person shooter with great level designs and and overworld hub and fun player abilities. Unlike the newer Wolfenstein it maintains the supernatural, occult Nazi theme of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It can still be found online on Amazon and such.

Perhaps the METRO games, Timeshift, Dishonored, Crysis series, Half-Life 1&2, FEAR series. Project Snowlblind looks pretty interesting. I think I played a demo way back when but I don't know much about it. I know they don't all fit your template but I'm just trying to come up with some stuff. I haven't played it yet but the new Prey sounds very good. I'd be interested in some similar games as well.

I own all games you've mentioned. Thanks for trying.. I guess the point here is, there's not much like it. I just keep hoping there's a gem out there quite similar that I've missed or forgotten.

I hear you. Its the nature of the search. Hoping to find some great FPS gem that passed us by along the way somewhere and then the joy of discovering it. I could shoot myself for trading in the Resistance Collection I got several years ago. I didn't delve into them much but I liked what I saw but for some reason traded them in for basically nothing. I'd been a customer of Electronics Boutique/Gamestop since the late 90s but I'll never shop there again. You loose way too much money on your items. Its better to keep them for a collection or even just give them away as a gift than to do buisness in a place like that.

I'd like to pick those up again someday. Its a simple FPS compared to Singularity but ModDB has as a free download Area -51. There's an original copy and a modder copy that I think allows for a widescreen fix and multiplayer. I also enjoy Blacksite: Area 51 but its also a pretty straight forward shooter. You mentioned Bioshock doesn't fit the bill for you but there's also Cryostasis which runs bad but its a cool story/setting. I'll keep thinking about it and see if I can come up with anything. I'm always on the look out too for an FPS gem or any gem for that matter.

As I focus on PC, gamespot isn't the store for me, among the other reasons.. they seem to focus on console with rare PC inclusion, at least where I live. Last time I dealt with them probably over a decade ago or close to it, I got a full cash refund returning something and spent it at another store on PC games. I collect PC physical games and guides.

I looked on my shelves the other day and nearly picked up Blacksite: Area 51 the other day to load, funny you mention it. I have Cryostasis also/disc. You know, a game that I also repeat sometimes like Singularity is Quake 4. More of a military style tho but dark. Fun Raven shooters.

That's one of the reasons I won't shop there again unless they can preorder me a PC game. It never used to be that way though. In the late 90s and early 2000s EB had walls full of PC games. Besides trading, I also used to sell them PC games for cash back when they did that. Then it started to change and by the time it became Gamestop, the PC selection became a single shelf stand in the back of the store. Like you said its definately console-centered only now. I'm with you on the physical stuff. I'd rather have a physical copy and I dislike the trend towards digital. I miss the days of big box pc games and inserts and manuals. At the very least thankfully there are contenders like GOG.com that go out of their way to make sure you as the customer own your digital purchase not to mention all the other extras and service they are known for. Other than maybe a demo I never played a Quake game. Do they have any single player stories or are they mainly multiplayer shooters? I tried a demo of Doom 3 years ago and that seems like a quality FPS but I just could not handle the theme. I love the idea of "mysterious event/lost contact of base on Mars" but I can't handle the hellish, satan spawn stuff lol.

I'll keep my thinking cap on though. There's tons of games out there but sometimes its hard finding them. Sometimes I like to go to Goodwill or similar store and sometimes you can find treasures. I got lucky a couple of years ago and found a full box copy of Ages of Empires 3. It was complete and like new condition and I think I got it for around five bucks. A really nice find as digitially that title is still sold for quite a bit.

I believe the ghosts and reminiscences were not taken from the ether, knowing Raven software the way they like to mesh up stuff known from different games aiming for synergy but ending up with a simple sum, although the singularity phenomenon excuses the use of the reminiscences effect.

Singularity came about ten years too late.

There's both (sorry for the late reply). You got 1 & 2, both have campaigns, light on story, focused on action, finding your way thru the map. Then there's Quake3 Arena (as in, mp arena shooter). Quake 4- back to sp campaign (there was a mp option back when it came out, but right now- you'd buy it for sp), best of the sp's, imho- but dev'd by Raven (who also did Singularity of course).

I'm right there with you. Stick with the sci-fi, ditch the rest. Sing on. ;) If I recall correctly, I kept thinking Quake 1 and/or 2 had a little hinting of that sort, never as much as Doom though. Quake 4- none. It's all sci-fi/action/fps-goodness :D Personally, back in the day, I was more for Unreal. Then came Unreal Tournament of course- without the demon stuff, futuristic, sci-fi and the movement/play is more to my liking. (I play UT with bots, I'm a sp-minded person, I was gaming before mp was so popular, I guess you could say I never got used to the idea of real ppl in my game :) Gaming is 'my' time, to take a break from ppl, not go looking for some, but that's just me.

I played all the games coot mentioned too and enjoyed them a lot. Maybe give Hard Reset (Hard Reset Redux) a shot. It had more to offer than i initially thaught. And the sets are really awesome.

I love Hard Reset - I pre-ordered it back when it was coming out.. and have spent many an hour in it. (the PC only version, the other is easier).

I just discovered this on the upcoming games list. Looks pretty cool from the trailer but there's not much info on it. Looks sort of like a Soviet/Bioshock/Wolfenstein game. Who knows though. Need more info.

Thanks, that's worth a look at least.

Promise seems pretty valid to how does it match Singularity.

Yeah when I stumbled on that I immediately thought of this thread and thought it fit this thread's purpose to a T. I guess it remains to be seen what its really all about but the trailer, though confusing, looks pretty slick. The parts that actually show FPS gameplay almost gave a feel of the newer ID Tech engine as seen in the new Doom.(Which I will probably neverrrrrrr player lol)

I´ll definitely keep an eye on this one. Looks awesome Coot, very interesting, thanks.
