If you have 4 channel sound the reason is that this game only supports 2 or 5 channels. You have to switch to 2 channel stereo sound in the windows sound settings to enable the sound in Singularity.
Even better is to choose the 5 channels surround, that you actually don't have. After you've selectet the not existing sound system, Windows will ask you wich speakers you have and you can unselect the missing front speaker and subwoofer. :) This works for all applications wich use the windows sound driver.
Hope that helps.

Another sound issue is, that some times Sngularity's sound is set to "very low" in the Windows sound mixer. Just right click on the task bar speaker icon. Select Volume Mixer and check it (while Singularity is running).

Thank you sooooo much for this!!! This solution worked for me when nothing else did.
What I did on Windows 10 was:
1. Right click on the sound volume icon in the system tray located in the lower right corner.
2. Select Sounds from the pop-up menu to open the Sound window.
3. Go to the Playback tab instead of the Sounds tab selected by default.
4. Selected my default device (Speakers) and clicked Configure on the bottom left
5. Instead of 'Quadraphonic' selected 'Stereo'
6. Click Next, Next, Finish
7. Click Apply
8. Start the Singularity game

Unfortunately this did not help. I only had two options in that menu and they were mono and stereo. It was already set on stereo but the game is still muted. Any other ideas?

Incase someone still has a problem, I was using wireless bluetooth headphones, and in windows you get a variant as "hands free AG audio" Disable that, in both playback and recording (in settings -> sound). Disable that and it'll work. Basically you gotta trick game into thinking your headset is old fashioned.
