Unwinnable?

*minor spoilers*

I seem to be at an unwinnable standstill. I was captured and then rescued by the Female agent. She gave me a pistol and told me to take off. I did so and continued my way through the game. Problem is I have not come across another weapon and I have not found a single bullet for the pistol (I have come across tons of ammo for the rifle but no actual rifle). I have had no ammo for a long time and have just gone through the singularity back in time. All I have is my fist weapon (the warp blaster thing that recharges). I am now in a situation where I basically get 3 shots with my fist and then am overwelmed by guards. It seems once the fist blaster is used up I have forgotten how to use my hands and so I just decide to let them overwhelm me and die. Thanks to the autosave checkpoint "feature" I can't go back any further than my latest checkpoint.

Is there any way for me to resolve this? It seems I somehow missed a rifle somewhere but since I can't go back I look to be SOL here.

You missed a weapon upgrade pod where you first encouter those blue mutants. They can also be used to swap out your load out. The first section in the 50s isn't actually that long (I just passed it actually). You're gonna have to cheese the guards with the TDM untill you find the Dr you're meant to save. He will eventually give you a prototype rifle where you can control an exploding bullet, but you only have like 10 ammo. You soon get more though.

I shut the game off when I made it back to 2010. I think I came across a weapon uprgrade pod when I made it back to 2010, so make sure you swap out your weapons

Yeah it's not clear but at the upgrade pods you can also equip any of the 4 weapons. So make sure to fill both your weapons slots. I wouldn't bother with the pistol after this, I always kept the assault rifle and mostly the shotgun but if it was an open section coming up I would grab the sniper rifle.
It's an odd design choice.

Sorry for the slow reply, I started playing another game. I'll have to give it another shot and see if I can get past this place. I have actually made it to the Dr twice, but both times he was shot and killed as I got there so I lost. Thanks for the helpful info.
