I remember testing a mod for someone that let you play half-baked DLC maps. It worked by using keybinds to execute commands in order to switch the maps. Since the commands worked off the config, it may be able to be try to modify them to just launch the escalation map.
That sounds promising, I myself dont have the expertise to do it either but its something that would revive the committed fanbase. And with a modified config you still wouldnt have access to online play, where what I was talking about was a third party software or provider that hosted servers that the game was modified to use sort of thing.
But unlocking the maps and game mode along with the now locked paid content and customisation is certainly a first step.
The game can most likely be tweaked to bypass the server requirement entirely, as long as it knows where to connect to.
It doesn't help that the game files are extremely difficult to access. I wouldn't count on being able to play multiplayer ever.
If anyone wants my files. Not sure if it will help at all
